To many people it may be the perfect walking holiday with opportunity to experience the culture. I believe for many more it is an almost insatiable pull towards the way. And many of the other long trails around the world. Determining the reason for the strong desire & drive did not come easy...
MrsBath, I felt compelled to tell you my short story. I broke my pinky toe when I arrived in Paris in preparation to begin my pilgrimage. I tried to continue walking, but against the advice of many pilgrims on this forum, and those I met on the trail, I gave up. My right foot so swollen &...
My husband did not go with me. I feel terribly defeated. I had met two American women who took me under their wing. But, unfortunately, after arriving in the town after Espinal (can't remember where) one of them became jealous of the third wheel. I know now that I should have pressed on. My toe...
Well all, I'm sorry to report that when I got to Pamplona, I got on the train to Madrid & I flew home. It was a Sunday & the toe was relentless in its aggravated state. Sure, I could have gone on reluctantly, but it was not to be this Camino. Buen Camino & many thanks to all the pilgrims who...
Thank you all for the info & encouragement. On the train now to SJPP. I did pad it & tape it. I will skip the mountain & start in Roncevalles as suggested, as even here On train it is swollen with pain in both lower calves & lower back from limping about. I walked about 4 mi yesterday to try &...
Hello all, Arrived in Paris yesterday & in the middle of the night ran into a chair. My pinky toe looks like a thumb & so painful to walk. My husband says it's a sign & to return home. Am worried about getting over the mountain! Any thoughts?
Shelly
You are welcome to come to the send off party with food & karaoke tomorrow about 230-530. Since you are so close. I think my contact info is on my profile.
Well, I got my pack down to 12lbs, well my husband did while I stood aside white knuckled. Fighting the urge to sneak some back in. He says just buy whatever I find myself missing. My frugal self is dreading that, but all is well. Thanks to all who advised! Shelly
Thank you for both for the response. I have a fleece liner & a lightweight summer bag the same size. So I'll leave one of those, and the thermals at homeThe dress I packed, hopefully for multiple church services, not so easy to leave behind! Going to pare it all back again
Happy to see your...
SY, I am officially freaking out as I leave on Sunday. I have four backpacks on hand as I have yet to determine which is best. My clothes are too much but, I have decreased already, along with toiletries & snacks. Leaving from Florida & my bag is 15 lbs without water! What to do?! My husband is...
Sarah, My first Camino leaving From SJPP on the 8th. Staying in Orrisson that night. Am not fit, am overweight & not trained even one day & have been up & down with apprehension. What was I thinking in my dreams last night. My plan is to keep walking & break as needed. It's hard not to worry...
I had a similar instance of no cancellations, period. I asked booking to contact them & they replied to me the hotel had agreed to move my arrival date with no fee. Was worth the email.
My pack also is 20lbs without water or snacks. Here goes a third try to pare it down. I, unfortunately, am not younger or fitter. Happy I logged on tonight to read this thread! Thank you to all who commented. Am still learning so much.
Nanc, that sounds great! Wish I had investigated that option before Booking non-refundable trains & Paris hotels. We likely will not run into each other as you are a bit ahead, and I expect to bring up the rear each day possibly not keeping up with the stages. Buen Camino to you! Shelly
Hi Sandra, I arrive in Paris on Sept 5, leaving on train for St Jean on the 7th. I paid 42 euro going to St Jean, but 79 returning from St Jean on Oct 22 on the sncf website. Probably just me but, I fussed with the reservations for a whole weekend while wishing I had let my travel agent book...
Thank you guys for the great information! I have a guidebook, have downloaded the lists of albergues but, it still seems a daunting task to do the planning which feels so necessary. Keeps me up some nights...lol
