    Accommodation for Volunteer

I was one of the last volunteers for 2023 and we stayed at the Albergue Peregrinos San Lazaro. There are two sections/buildings with one of them being for the volunteers at the Pilgrim’s Office.

Pilgrim Museum - Before & After Portrait Exhibition

I agree, a wonderful exhibit and very moving.

    Bank verification with Spanish SIM

Being from Canada and having this same problem, I called my bank. I do use the app for my banking and they told me that the message sent is phone specific and not number specific….at least in my case. I also found that if I was using my SIM card and not wifi, I was able to get right into the...

    Return To Canada after Camino

I was returning to Toronto but it’s a simple bus ride from Santiago to Porto where I enjoyed a few day being a tourist in this great city. I then flew home direct on Air Transat which likely flies direct to Montreal as well.

    Trainline and registering!

I live in Canada and use the Trainline app with no problems. Try the app…I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you! 🤞

    stop halfway Betanzos to Bruma

If you’re feeling like a splurge, stay at the beautiful Rectoral de Cines! It is a former monestary that has been converted into a hotel. It is off the Camino but they offer complementary pick up, and drop off the next morning. There are two options for this. The hotel also offers a lovely...

Is the Ingles Social or Solitary?

I walked the Ingles mid-October 2023 and found it very solitary. Some days I didn’t see any other pilgrims. Those I did see were often in groups or wanting to keep to themselves. I also met very few English speakers which added to the isolation as my Spanish is limited. I did enjoy the...

Best way to get to St. Jean Pied de Port from Ontario Canada

This is exactly what I did from London Ontario and it worked like a charm! It was nice to spend a few days in Paris and Porto if you have the time.

You can invite a companion on Camino, but you can't make them walk (in preparation)!

It’s a long shot but was it the Maitland Trail Camino that you sister participated in this past weekend? If it was she certainly picked a tough trail to start with…especially the first 31km of it!!

    Camino Inglés in October

I too will be walking the Camino Ingles mid-October! Looking forward to meeting others on the path!

Favourite Accommodation Splurge along the Camino

I second this recommendation! It’s a beautiful place with lovely cloisters as part of the hotel. When we were there there was a soft breeze blowing through the cloisters with music playing in the background and a wonderful scent in the air!

    Sellos on the Francigena

We often got stamps from the police stations in a town. They knew what we were asking for and were quite happy to oblige. In fact, we were sometimes directed there to get the stamp.

    Casa Fernanda?

I know this has been discussed before but could someone please remind me of the best way to contact these lovely people if you are hoping to reserve a bed. TIA

    2023: hospitalero shortage

I’m signed up for the hospitalera course being offered in London (Canada) at the end of June. Check with the CCoP to see if there are still spots available. I’m hoping to be able to volunteer in Sept/Oct of this year. 😀

    Santiago Pilgrim Office Volunteers

Just wondering where the invitation to serve at the Pilgrims Office appears as it is something I would like to do in the future.

Walking from Viana do Castelo to Ponte de Lima

Further to above, I found the route we took and will include it. It will give you a rough idea of how to leave the city on less busy roads and get you to the Ecovia!

Walking from Viana do Castelo to Ponte de Lima

I was in Ponte de Lima in March doing some biking and we biked along the Ecovia to Viana do Castelo. The path is on the south side of the river and although there are some signs, as long as you stay on the path or beside the river, you should be fine. It was a bit tricky getting into VdC, or...

Where to buy toe socks along the Camino Frances?

It’s been a few years but I bought a pair in Astorga at a hiking store, just off the main plaza.
