I have an 11:05 flight from Madrid to the US and am wondering about the wisdom of flying Ryanair from Santiago de Compostela to Madrid that same day. There's a flight that leaves SCQ at 6:45 AM and arrives in Madrid at 8:00 giving me plenty of time to catch the 11:05 flight.
Is Ryanair a good...
I walked the Camino for 6 weeks last August and used Booking.com to make all of my lodging arrangements. I booked (90+% of the time) single rooms with private bathrooms. This was to help avoid getting COVID to begin with. I would hope you could do this to book a place to stay if you were to get...
Thanks for your responses. I wasn’t expecting to learn that there’s a tall wooden pole with an iron cross on top of it along the Ingles. I was hoping though there might be a place with a significance approaching that of the Cruz de Ferro. Looks like a no. I think I will just walk and, as per...
I’m planning to walk the Camino Ingles next week and am wondering if there is a place akin to the Cruz de Ferro along the route. I have a couple of stones I’d like to drop off somewhere along the way. (I’ll never hear that phrase without thinking of Dan Mullins and his song, “Somewhere Along the...
An interesting idea. If pilgrims were to suddenly stop walking tomorrow and not resume walking would the Camino still be there? The routes would still be there, the many paths pilgrims have walked for centuries up until this time. But do the routes and paths themselves make a Camino? Or is it...
I will start my Camino by flying into Santiago de Compostela on July 7 and traveling by train the next day to Burgos where I will begin my walk on the 9th. I have a train ticket for Santiago to Burgos that involves a transfer in Ourense. However, there's only a 5 minute window between when the...
I have the paper document as well as an app (My Chart) which documents the appointments with my health care provider and the particular vaccine I received.
I heard about ten years ago (without following the advice at that time) that a healthy daily meal plan was to eat like a king/queen for breakfast, like a prince/princess for lunch and a pauper for supper. Since returning from the Camino I've tried to make supper the lightest meal of the day and...
I'll be starting my Camino on July 9 in Burgos and I'm wondering where I can get a first sello for my pilgrimage on the CF to Santiago de Compostela. Is there one at the cathedral? If so, where? I won't be staying at an albergue in Burgos the night of the 8th. Thanks for any suggestions.
I (like many others) had to cancel my planned walk last Spring. Hopefully, and thankful in advance, this year will be different. I will be taking a slightly more leisurely approach this year from my previous walk on the CF and the walk to Muxia in 2017.
Here's the link to the youtube video of Nancy's presentation Live From the Camino at William & Mary:
This is a more direct link, which I should have provided, rather than the link to the W&M website about the presentation. She had students from the university act out skits to help dramatize...
The findings in the article seem to mirror those discussed by Nancy Frey in the following presentation at William & Mary University: https://www.wm.edu/as/center-liberal-arts/campus-coll300/coll300-visitor/past-visitors/coll300-nancy-l-frey.php
More evidence in support of tuning out...
Four years ago I had 8 weeks to spend walking the Camino and I had great ambitions - the Frances and on to Finisterre, the English Camino, and who knows what after that. Well, that didn't happen! I hobbled into Santiago with a foot injury having skipped major sections of the Frances (but walking...
Having lived overseas on a number of occasions I'm familiar with the notion of culture shock, which could also apply to the Camino. Normally there are 4 stages identified in culture shock, but I think there are 5, and this new, last stage could definitely apply to the Camino.
Stage 1 - the...
