    Backpacks Check-in or carry-on

I carried my backpack on the flight from the US without any problems. The aircraft on international flights have large overhead bins. Buen Camino Gregory

Where to start with 33 days?

33 days is very doable from SJPDP without any rest days. To be on the safe side I’d recommend starting at Pamplona. Easy to get to and you will have cut off only three days from SJPDP. Buen Camino

    Swimming pool in april/may?

I started my pilgrimage on May 1 and purposely stayed at places that had a pool. It was always too cold to use. I would still bring a suit because soaking your feet will reduce inflammation and you can get some sun!

Wimpy Merino Shirts, Or Is It Just Me

Thanks for the insight regarding your shirt. I considered trying Merino on my next pilgrimage. On my first Camino, I used bamboo shirts. They wore well and were comfortable and are anti-macrobial. I prefer natural fibers but cotton is a big mistake on the Camino as it retains sweat and will...

Is it true that English-only is a problem?

I used google translate for the few times a little more than ordering food from a menus was necessary. Download the Spanish file so you won’t need the internet

What city do you arrive in after 2 weeks of walking from SJPdP?

Sorry, I was thinking two weeks to Santiago not SJPP. I should have read more carefully

What city do you arrive in after 2 weeks of walking from SJPdP?

I would say that Astorga should give you a good buffer in the event of delays and will make your last two weeks relatively easy to moderate. There is a bus from the Madrid Airport and Santiago as well.

Favorite albergue in the Camino Frances

I loved having a private room in Carrion de los Condes at the Sisters of the Phillipeans convent.

    Equipment April/May

Everyone says “it depends” which is true but it may be more helpful to just tell you our own experience and let you judge. I did the Camino Frances starting the last day of April in 2017. I stayed in alburges the entire time except when I decided to splurge on high end hotels in larger cities. I...

    GPS on Camino Frances

I used the Trail Smart app (free) and purchased the Camino data set that includes offline maps. It was reassuring to know where I was st all times. While the Camino is well marked there were a few times when there are alternate routes can become confusing and having the GPS guidance from the...

    Useful apps for planning route

I liked TrailSmart as well. It is very full of options so play with it in advance to learn how to navigate the app.

Looking for Best Pilgrim Common Meal

I really enjoyed the common meal at Alburge Roboleira in Fonfría. They have a separate thatched roofed round yurt with long tables and the vibe at the dinner I attended was very nice. Buen Camino.

    Is Roncesvalles worth staying in?

I think this reply hits the nail on the head of the pluses and minuses. One additional plus. After checking in, go to the basement and they will do your laundry for a minimum fee. May not seem like a big deal after only two days but it is a service you will learn to appreciate after several...

Indecision and questions about Camino for first time- helpful advice from pilgrims requested!

Based on two weeks availability Astorga would be a great place to start. It will give you a comfortable amount of travel time on both sides. I met many Canadians on my Camino in May and most were solo women. You will meet people day one. Buy some wool socks; buy some good hiking lightweight...

Jacintha: I am a first time pilgrim so I have no special knowledge. I reserved a Bed at Beilari based on comments in this forum. I did some research and Pelerin Pilgrims Hostil is highly rated and is a few doors away from the Pilgrims Office and Beilari. Ultreia Hostel is also highly rated (...

Regardless of what anyone else says, I think you're a class act for wanting to look nice on the plane.
