    In 2017 I stayed at Hotel Arriazu in the old city surrounded by restaurants and tapas bars, with easy access to the modern city as well as the old. I loved Pamplona.

    Perhaps the Pilgrins Office could hand out plastic bags with instructions on the disposal of toilet paper, wet wipes etc. Would cost less than the people employed to clean up. Might work, might not.

    Mourned for jacket

    Try a brand called Keen. Mine crossed the Pyrenees when they were two years old, and that was four years ago. I still wear them most days although they are now showing some wear and tear. Most comfortable sandals I have ever owned.

    Covid is surging in South Africa. The president will address the nation tonight and we are expecting he will impose another harsh lockdown. Wait and see. I have had half a vaccine. Vaccines are scarce as is the case in most African countries.

    The bottom photo is of red hot pokers, indigenous to South Africa. At their best they grow en masse in marshy areas particularly in the foothills of the Drakensberg in KwaZulu--Natal, the province where I live. I have some in my garden.
