Same here. Terrible blister on left heel.
Luckily the soles were the same height, so my gait stayed unaffected.
I did get a few strange and a few knowing, compassionate looks.
Great photos! So nice to recognize familiar places and to discover new ones.
Here are a few from my caminos:

I have rhizarthrosis and am very happy with my Pacer Poles. Thanks to the design of the handles, you can hold the poles very lightly (without any straps); no need to firmly grip them at all. The "heel" and outer edge of your hand are cradled into the handle, and that's where the weight or...
Hi @batty , I don't know if maintaining your balance on stepping stones across water would also be an issue for you. If so, you could have a look at this earlier thread where I posted pictures of a place between Roncesvalles and Zubiri (post #6) which hopefully can put your mind at ease as you...
I walked the Camino Francés in 2017, starting in SJPP on May 16 and arriving in SdC on June 24.
I had one day of continuous rain, and one more with some drizzle, a few windy, overcast, coolish (but never really cold) days, but mostly I had sunny days, ranging from warm to extremely hot during a...
I hardly ever listen to music when walking a Camino, but I vividly remember one occasion, setting out on the Meseta one misty morning, no other pilgrims in sight, listening to Bach cantatas when suddenly the sun came through. The sight and the sound were so majestic, I felt completely...
That made me remember my night in Roncesvalles
where the light 💡 went on every time someone went to the bathroom,
only to be followed by the loudest toilet flush 🚽 known to man. 😆
I walked from Porto on the Camino Portugués Central & Variante Espiritual from September 1st to 15th, 2022. In both weeks, I had a mix of rain (sometimes even heavy rain) and sunshine, often both within one day. Temperatures were quite nice for walking, in the lower 20s Celsius.
When I stayed at Ninho in Rubiães in September 2022, there was no communal dinner at the albergue. Everybody went to a restaurant a few hundred meters down the road.
The communal dinner at Casa Fernanda, of course, is legendary.
With Pacer Poles, it's the "heel" and outer edge of your hand which is cradled in the handle that does the pushing when propulsing yourself forward. The hand itself is relaxed and holds the handle quite loosely. I suffer from ostheoarthritis in my thumbs but can use Pacer Poles comfortably. The...
I guess this is what you are looking for. It is from the Spanish Decathlon website.
I am a happy Pacer Pole user myself, but my husband got this model from Decathlon. The grip is not quite as ergonomic as my Pacer Poles' but I would still prefer them to regular poles as I find the hand position...
I found a raffia bag for 1 Euro and some tape in the basement of the hardware store "El Horreo", marked with a black X on the map I'm attaching. I used it as a pack cover for my flight home (I have a 35 liter pack). They may have larger bags (I am not sure but maybe worth a try) that could fit...
If you hate "carrying" an umbrella as in "holding" an umbrella, have you tried fixing an umbrella to the shoulder strap of your backpack thus making it hands-free? Best protection for glasses and for shoulder straps, too (if you use rain jacket instead of poncho). I use mine (Euro Schirm, 238...
I found quite the opposite to be true! For me, it was exactly the anonymity of the Camino that made it easier to share my deepest thoughts, fears or regrets – as I would likely never meet the other pilgrims again.
In daily life, there is always the "What will they think of me?", "Will they...
My guess would be: mid to late 1990s. Why?
The pilgrim's memorial they show is dated 1993 but doesn't look brand new.
They pay the taxi driver who transports their backpacks in Pesetas; the Euro was introduced in 2002.
They also mention the rise of the AIDS epidemic "ten years ago" which would...
I continued walking on it and that kept pushing the fluid to the sides making the "bag" bigger.
Once the Compeed was in place I could walk on practically pain-free.
Buen camino!
I hesitated to drain my heel blister, but the continuous pressure made it bigger every day.
After finally opening it (with sterile lancet), the "roof top" rubbing on the bare flesh caused a lot of pain when walking, so I decided to carefully de-roof it completely, disinfect it and cover it...
I printed out and laminated a credit-card-sized card which I carry in may wallet – not only on camino but also at home. On one side it has my contact information (phone number and e-mail address) in case I ever loose my wallet; on the other side it has the phone numbers and e-mails of my two...
I walked that route in September 2022 and, just like you, wanted to keep my daily distances moderate. Armenteira to Vilanova de Arousa would have been the longest stage for me, too.
The walk from Combarro, where I had spent the night, up to Armenteira took me about 3 hours. I had planned to stay...
