Actually they do offer both dinner and breakfast. I was surprised that one of my best pilgrim meals was at Roncesvalles - I think it was E10 a head, the standard 3 courses with bread and wine. We had one bottle for our table of four and bought another at E5. Great homemade veggie soup and fish...
Not regarding whether or not bookings are recommended but just an observation from my night at Roncesvalles on 24th March. Several pilgrims I had walked with believes they had booked (and paid) online, only to be told at check-in they had not.
It seems there is a "final confirmation" step in...
Bearing in mind that there are pharmacies everywhere I would cut any "just in case" and focus on what you are are likely to use often or unable to buy easily. For instance, I take Voltaon tablets due to ankle & knee issues but only brought two tabs (20) with me. Turns out you need a GP...
Thanks @trecile I hadn't even thought to check FB for similar groups; I'm definitely not going to pull out this close (start on Friday) but, like @MrsBath have anxieties about certain aspects of the walk, one of which is walking alone - I've already sent off my request to join the group and look...
Thanks @jsalt - great to hear no need to make a reservation, makes this a good tip along with @Mark Lee and @Viranani as it was the uncertainty around reservations so early on where the pilgrims just stalking out won't have 'staggered' yet.
I am bringing a tablet and charger when I start next week. I noticed the question a few months back from a pilgrim asking about taking his Ipad was met with much negativity so didn't offer a comment - but for me, my Camino is part of a 6-month world trip and I will use it to blog, as a journal...
Hi all,
I'll preface this request by saying I realise that it is ultimately a personal decision that no-one can make for me, but I am interested to hear what others prefer / would recommend!
I will be starting out from SJPDP on my first camino on Thursday and have yet to decide whether to stop...
Hi Colette - yes, I'll be bringing a sleeping bag and a silk liner as I am planning on spending around half my nights in albergues / refugios. I sleep very warm but am a little funny about unclean bedding & want to be prepared for potential snow temperatures along the way! I definitely am taking...
Hi Jonas,
Since posting this I have decided to walk the France instead of the Norte... First timer, solo woman walker I figured it better to get a good understanding of what I'm getting myself in for before heading off into days in a stretch with no company especially after a few of the recent...
Hi all,
I will be walking my first Camino next year, starting from either SJDPP or Roncesvalles around 22nd March. I'll be walking alone but look forward to meeting some of this forum's wonderful characters along the way!
Thanks for all the magnificent information available to first-time...
A third must-red for Aisla Piper's Sinning Across Spain. Have just finished it and feel it has changed me a little :) I'll be walking the Frances as my first Camino in a few months and feel like a bit of a wuss now, I recently decided against the Norte off-season for safety reasons - but she...
Hi Kate,
I had an ankle reconstruction 3 months ago and will start my first ever Camino around 21 March 2017. It has been tough but I've recently started walking without a brace and other general exercise (I love boxing classes). At the start I feared I'd never walk again but I'm now exercising...
