Might I suggest an different way to experience the Camino. I walked from SJPdP to SDC in 2017 at the age of 70. As you say it was a life changing experience, in large part due to interactions with other pilgrims. When I got home I longed to return. The more that I thought about it the more I...
When I first walked the Camino. I thought that I had to carry everything every step of the way. And I did for the first 350 miles. Then a swollen ankle almost derailed my plan to reach SdC. I discovered that the Spanish Post Office will transport your bag for a very low fee. They helped me...
I walked the Camino in 2017. In 2018 I took the training to be a volunteer at an albergue in Ponferrada. I was accepted for an assignment in June, 2019. I had to have a heart ablation to calm my a fib and had to cancel. Early in 2020 I was accepted for June, 2020, but Covid caused that to be...
I have my medicare advantage plan with United Healthcare, so when I went to Spain I checked with them. They have a good and easy to use website and the price was reasonable. I had no claim but since they are my local insurer I felt safe.
By taking the more pleasant route I am missing the benefits of suffering through the less pleasant routes. That is a form of suffering so I regain the 3 benefits that you mentioned.
They are not boxes. They are pallets. Goods are stacked on them and a fork lift can pick them up to load them for shipping.
Hyosung is a Korean Industrial conglomerate that makes many products. Possibly the most well known is the Hyosung motorcycle.
Two things:
Never separate yourself and your meds. You need a small day pack for water, meds, and anything else that you cannot live without. Mine weighs about 6 pounds with 3.5 pounds of water. Never know that it is there until I need a drink.
The post office (Correos) is great. You can...
In 2017 I was 70 and allowed 41 days. I spent an extra night in both Burgos and Leon. When I finished I had 3 days in SDC and 3 days in Madrid. That left me with 33 days walking. Some were short days and some were long. I didn't pay much attention to stages and spent many nights off-stage...
I worked in an albergue in Ponferrada the first half of June this year and walked several stages the last half of June. The first day that you have planned is an easy level walk. You should enjoy it. The second day is more hilly but still not bad. Your third day starts with a long steep climb...
I have been accused of racing for a bed because I walked from 6am until 1pm. I was afraid of the heat during the middle of the day. Last month it got really hot from 2pm until around 8pm. At my age, I took frequent rest stops and drank lots of water. Please be careful out there.
I just finished working in Ponferrada the first half of June. We did not provide meals so there was no cooking. Pilgrims left every morning between 6 and 8. From 8 until 10 we cleaned the bathrooms, kitchen, and courtyard and mopped the floors. We were free until around 1PM when we opened...
I'll answer the last question first. Everything in my life has happened for a reason. I'm not very religious but when I look back at turning points in my life I see many times when if things had been different I would not be where I am now. The second question can be answered with a question...
Thanks to everyone for all the info. I am flexible. I have not yet bought a ticket to Astorga. I have a paid reservation in Astorga so a late arrival there is not the end of the world. There is a later bus and a train might even work, but it is confusing to understand the different train...
My Delta flight lands Sunday at 8:45. The bus to Astorga leaves T4 at 10:00. The last time I flew into Madrid we landed about 40 minutes early and it took less that 30 minutes to clear customs. Is there anyone that has been there in the last couple of weeks that could give me some idea about...
In 2017 I met a woman that was walking with her 20 year old son. She got up early before it got hot and he slept until they ran him out the door. They knew in advance where they were going to stop each night and met there. It seemed to work for them.
