Be aware that Maya will not only not be allowed in (most) albergues and hotels, but neither in bars, restaurants, trains, busses, taxi's.
Spanish people have a total different relationship with dogs than people from the UK.
In Roncesvalles we scan every paspoort / ID-card and this info goes directly electronically to the Guardia Civil every day, so we are told. The data of the old-fashioned Italian ID-papers which cannot be scanned are entered by hand into the computer. The Valcarlos police drops in at the albergue...
Thank you all for searching your files.
@wynrich: though it is a beautiful photo, we are only interested in the outside of the building. But thanks anyway!
For a quarterly magazine of the Dutch Confraternity of Saint James I am looking for a photograph of the municipal albergue in Hornillos del Camino in a good quality (at least 2 MB). I really hope that someone on this phantastic forum can help me.
If you have a good photograph, please send me a...
Make sure you make reservations for the first nights, in the 'bottleneck' between Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port and Pamplona. April 2023 was much busier than April 2022.
And keep in mind that - although the Route Napoleon will officially be open as from April 1st - the Route Napoleon can be closed...
The best thing to do is to call the albergue +34 948 76 00 00
The lady in the receptiondesk speaks English. Between 2 and 3 pm the telephone will probably not been answered but before and after this hour you can call.
And, in addition to your second question: no, it is not self-service. The hospitaleros will put the laundry in the machine. It takes only 18 minutes, so maybe you can wait (if it is not too busy when much laundry is already waiting to be washed). You can ask the hospitaleros.
After the washing...
Because Spanish people have a few days off during the Semana Santa (the Holy week) and many of them decide to walk a a part of the Camino then. Especially in the 'bottleneck' between SJPdP and Pamplona there are no beds available, so anyone who walks the Camino in that week: be sure you made...
I repeat my message of last April in another thread about the water quality:
A tip: when you are running out of water while you are really thirsty: in every little village you will find a cemetery/graveyard where you will find a tap! Spanish people keep very good care of their deceased loved...
That is how the reservation system in Roncesvalles works. A reservation is only valid if the moneytransfer was successful.
@Jensjaunt: did you provide a correct e-mailaddress and was the moneytransfer successful?
If so: call the albergue between 10am and 10pm for a check. There is always an...
If the required amount of money was taken from your creditcard you certainly must have received a confirmation. Did you check your spammail?
You can send an e-mail (in English) to info@alberguederoncesvalles.com or call them (between 10am and 10pm European time, also in English) at +34 948 76...
In Roncesvalles many people are always very surprised we do not provide blankets. We have never had them, not even in the pre-Covid years.
I myself never used blankets on my Caminos; I have a light-weight sleeping bag and prefer to sleep in this. You never know when a blanket was washed...
A taxi will cost you approx. € 150,--.
Why not stay in Pamplona today? It is such a nice city for a Sunday afternoon and you can just walk through Pamplona when you are there again walking the Camino, it will save you time then.
Tomorrow you can take the Alsa bus at 12am to SJPdP, costs € 22,--.
Some ideas about your shoes:
1. Put laces with a striking colour in your shoes
2. Bind your shoes together with your laces
3. Cut a piece of an old credit card (or similar), punch a hole through it with a hole punch and write your phone number on it with a permanent marker, so in case somebody...
@dick bird: yes, the spindryers we use for people who prefer handwashing their laundry are always a place of interest; especially people from the USA and Korean people have never seen a thing like that. And they are always amazed when they see how much water it takes out!
Or, how dirty the...
