There's good detail in Camino Pilgrim but the alburgue lists are outdated. I lost my bag for a bit by sending to one that had been closed for 3 years! I like the Buen Camino app best, the Wise Pilgrim app is ok.
Also download for offline in maps and the translator apps. I did the same with...
After much internal debate of the best route, I've decided to walk the Madrid. It makes more sense to me than a train/bus to Frances only to walk back, when I'm flying into Madrid and could just walk from there. I'm looking forward to less crowds and more adventure, and if I get lonely I know...
If you're looking for smaller crowds like in The Way, you could switch to another route. Overcoming the language barrier is pretty easy, you can translate things beforehand and study some basics. But switching to a different path if one isn't working for you is easy too. Depends on the...
I wasn't going to buy any, I'd planned on using some old beat up Nike sandals I have and only bought hiking shoes . But... I got stuck in jury duty last week so bought some pink Teva sandals with the payout check. I've heard the Camino will provide, but I'm not used to the US government as such...
Saw this post while searching for packing it out, thank you for posting solutions instead of venting. I've been seeing a lot of negative posts lately, and this one made my forum day. Thank you! :)
I've worked the MOOP squad at many an event; it's gotta be easier than a regional Burning Man...
There are cheaper luggage storage places in Madrid, the airport is just higher. Some hostels will store baggage too, but they're all more expensive than posting forward on the camino. If you're taking a train through Pamplona you could post it from a refugio there rather than lugging it all...
Yeah, I have a vision of searching in vain for an athlete's scalp treatment. No thanks! But embracing the art of the roll is worth a reminder, and the music is zippy.
From a geek point of view it's a cumbersome and misguided way to do it. Nobody uses QR codes. But here you go:
Go to https://online-barcode-reader.inliteresearch.com/ after downloading the .pdf file to your computer.
Check the QR symbology and click "Read."
Go to each of of the URLs for each...
It's very easy to be judgmental and negative on an anonymous forum like this. Haters gotta hate! But it's also just as easy to ignore them for they matter not. You may find like-minded speedy folk on the way, and even if you speed through you'll meet friendly people along the way in cafes...
May not be my kind of Camino, but who am I to judge the worthiness of other ways? I don't flog myself the whole walk, does that make me less worthy than some? If they sully my way, it's nice to know where to send comments to. Otherwise I wish them peace and success, however they define it.
I found the cheapest flights out of Newark to Madrid, even though I live in Atlanta it was much cheaper. $450 r/t, not bad!
Finding a balance between austerity and comfort is part of the fun of this journey imho. What do you really need? Do you need a warm breakfast every day or will cheap...
For those of you in the US, Walmart carries Gehwol with free shipping. Not the blue, but the regular cream and some other items. I've chosen to bring essential oils and a collapsible wash basin for a foot soak instead of another cream. Tough callouses or no, I'm not going to make it a month...
It's impossible to feel alone in this community. So, I'm diving in!
I'll arrive in SJPdP on May 20th, and haven't set a timeline other than that. I'd like to be in Santiago by July, but will let my soul (and soles!) plan the timeline. I'm planning an austere journey with little frills...
