I picked one up at the end of the Camino Madrid so it was my compostella of sorts for an otherwise uncertificated walk. Unlike a previous contributor, my credentials were pored over and questions asked (but all in good humour) and yes it is a lovely momento of a fabulous hike.
This is a fascinating thread. On the strength of what I have read here I will order a copy of Anthony Seldon’s book and give serious consideration to coming out of ‘camino retirement’ to give it a go and pay my respects along the way. Thanks for the post.
A bit of both really. A lot of canalside walking which is quite industrial until you get clear of Reading. Then you pass through various towns and villages - some with great watering holes (but some may have closed due to Covid). As you get closer to major towns the landscape changes but, all in...
I’ve walked that route but from Reading to Southampton only. Not a bad hike but accommodation is sparse and expensive. There are B&Bs off-route and I’ve heard that some churches on the route may let you overnight on floors. This wasn’t the case when I walked it a few years ago though. Take time...

So my friends. What do we do when life throws us lemons? Yes - we make lemonade! No camino for me this year so I am going to start planning a new adventure for 2021: the Alps to the Mediterranean [763 miles], and then across Sicily [120 miles - their new camino] with my five Cosa Nostra camino...
I carried a 28lb pack for 6 weeks on the Via de la Plata. I had everything I needed and was happy carrying the weight so never gave it a second thought. Carry what you're comfortable with!
The young lady on the desk asked for my credential, which I gave her, she then asked where I started from then stamped [sello] it and put it to one side. I then spent some time walking around the exhibits and returned to pick up my completed certificate and credential. There wasn't a 'serious'...
