    Challenge with accommodations

Walking the Camino Francis 20+ years ago the idea of booking accommodation never occurred to me. It just was not necessary. And walking the R de la P with my wife at that time we found ourselves the only pilgrims at refuges on most of the 42 stages. How different now and, without evidence to...

    My only regret walking

Hello Sirron. Quite understand your thinking. For what it's worth I walked several pilgrimage routes with my wife and several on my own - to the extent I recently walked the route from Almeria to Granada and saw no other pilgrims for 8 days; it was wonderful! All have been memorable for me...

    Sunday walking

Just do your shopping on Saturday - or is that too problematic?

Best place to get a first stamp in Santander

Presumably you know there is a pilgrims’ refuge in Santander? If open you should be able to get your stamp there.

    Pedicures along the Camino

Yes, of course, the Camino is littered with beauticians and hair dressing salons, aside from tonal therapies! Seriously, be prepared for your feet to groan with abuse. As necessary you can always pick up small nail clippers or scissors when in Spain. Have a good one Hiking Traveler.

How can you get an electric bike to the Camino from England?

Ferry from Portsmouth or Plymouth to Bilbao or Santander? You’re then on the Camino del Norte. Return to Spanish port by rail. Worth exploring?

How do you secure your backpack from theft as checked luggage.

Wow! Some suggestions preferred! TWO from personal experience: 1. Take minimum required and purchase additional necessities in Spain; 2. Put backpack in lightweight zip-up, lockable holdall (easily packable) when walking. Whatever, stay safe and enjoy!

    Finances to Feet

Further to my comments above I add the following: if you (and, for that matter, any other “pilgrims”) do propose to walk from SJPDP to Roncesvalles in one go/day an early start is recommended. With my wife we were on the road by 5 a.m. and, given that the early kilometres are on road, had no...

    Finances to Feet

Can’t help but admire your spirit but seriously question the wisdom of starting out from SJPDP given your described physical condition. Aside from further damage to your foot, which could deny you further walking, if on a particular remote stretch you become immobilised you not only put...

Discover the Asociación Jacobea de Almería - Granada Camino Mozárabe through Gronze's Article (Spanish)

Without reading (for me, necessarily in translation!) the article what I can say is how amazingly supportive the “Amigos” of the Associacion Jacobea de Almeria were when I walked from Almeria to Granada in March 2019. For the eight days of walking I saw no other pilgrims - the solo occupant of...

    Let's talk waist packs!

For me a bum bag is essential. Never mind appearance (why concern yourself with that, for goodness sake?), for carrying small items which may require close attention it beats rummaging around in the backpack which, of course, is consequently minimalised. Simples!

    transport from Santiago to Lisbon

Rail preferable for me. Prepare to be flexible with arrangements AND always ask for discounts!

What not to take? And what to not forget?

    Where do you shop?! Pounds?!

Via De La Plata in reverse, starting in November.

Give it a go Matt! Almost impossible to answer your specific question. Only you will know whether it was a good idea or not! And don’t be deterred by being asked “what are your motivations and expectations” - you are accountable only to yourself! Good luck and, whatever, enjoy! Paul

What not to take? And what to not forget?

A practice of mine is to have all key personal documents, having been scanned, accessible in a file online. I walk (and travel) a lot on my own and should I, perchance, become separated from my passport, for instance, I can, at a police station, say, pull up a copy.

What not to take? And what to not forget?

Wow!! What a sackful of responses, Katherine! Anything to add from me? Little, maybe, but based on some 20 years Camino experience. Essentially be guided by personal experience and common sense. For instance, do you usually walk with sticks? Me? I tend to minimalism but never...

How do you plan your route out?

    Get a “clear map”! Simples!

Sept 7 2021 Salvador and Primitivo

Hi Jim, two great routes as you will surely find! C de S Salvador (2018) - from Leon picked up discrete credential at welcoming Bar Central in Carbajal; (see you have made reservations but, for me) two notable refuges: Carbanillas and Buiza - need to take own provisions because of no...

    My Camino regret!

After several years and thousands of kilometres of walking CdeS routes, met great people and treasured visiting special places, I regret not having met the guy (gender neutral!) who, somehow, despite all precautions based on experience, managed to access and empty my purse at the Pobena refuge...

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Is the mask required in the albergue and while sleeping?

Why ask here? Have you thought that, perhaps, as you will obviously have a mask with you, your question would be answered as you arrived at an Albergue?
