I turned 80 this year and, apart from facing shoulder replacement surgery this winter, am still planning to walk the Mozarabe as soon as I am recovered, maybe fall '24. There has always been "just one more route" that we'd like to walk. For me, it is the Mozarabe. My partner Wes is now 87...
I've had two knees replaced and put hundreds and hundreds of Camino miles since -- just do the physical therapy exercises like a new religion after your surgery and you will walk the Caminos again. At 80, I'm looking toward a possible Mozarabe in my near future...
I have had both knees replaced and have walked camino after camino with my new knees. Everyone recovers differently but if there is any advice I can give it is to make your rehab exercises your new religion. Dedication to these is the answer to full recovery. Give it time -- it will take a...
You are not alone!! In 2017 we walked the San Salvador. In La Pena we stayed in the albergue. First the electricity went out when someone plugged something in. The Polideportivo sent a man who showed us how to work the fuse box in the music school next door (!) and he gave us a key to get...
I had both knees replaced and have put hundreds and hundreds of camino kilometers on them. So grateful we live at a time when joint replacements are possible!!
Our first time at Orisson we were put in this room as well -- didn't ask for anything special but it was very special. The second time we were at Orisson we (2) were put in the one across the street along with two others. We had the double bed and the two women each had a single. Lucked out...
He was on the border in Mexico providing meals for refugees in the camps waiting to be allowed to seek refuge in the US during Trump's Stay in Mexico time.
We really chose the Sureste because we wanted to connect to the Sanabres. We had started the Via de la Plata (from Salamanca) and got as far as Rio Negro when Covid forced us to abandon. We thought the Sureste would be a more interesting way to complete that Camino rather than just starting...
Wow, I have spent today reading and taking notes from that planning thread for the Levante -- terrific! I'd love it if there was a similar one for the Sureste. I still am totally unclear where those two Caminos overlap and where they diverge after they first come together until Medina del...
Thank you so much -- I have ordered the guide. And of course will be reading the posts in this section. One quick additional question -- are the distances greater between places to stay on the Levante than on the Sureste?
We are planning to walk the Sureste as soon as it is safe again. Is there any information about the route, the distances between places to stay, food availability, etc., in English?
Yesterday my travel agent called to say that my Iberia flight (April 1) that was under American Airlines was cancelled and we were getting a full refund! Up until yesterday, they were only willing to change our tickets with no extra charge for any flight until December 31, 2020 -- NOT OK. But...
Embarrassed to say this but -- how do I find his VDLP Facebook page so I can update my 2019 edition? Leaving April 1 to pick up our route again from Rio Negro.
So sad that we will be behind you. We just made reservations for April 1 to fly from Boston to Madrid, then take a bus to Benevente and hopefully get there in time to get a bus to Rio Negro. If anyone has a better way of doing this we'd love to hear about it.
So I guess we'll start walking...
If all is well, a big "if" for we aging peregrinos, we will pick up again in March 2020 where we left off last October in Rio Negro and head to Santiago....
