Depends on if they're for mindless entertainment or actual information.
For information, get a guidebook.
For entertainment read one of the countless overdramatic and embellished accounts of walking the Camino.
I left my smartphone charging cord at an albergue and unfortunately didn't have a spare, or a plug converter which was on the charging cord I left. I went to one of the Chinese shops, or Bazaar Chino as this one was called and purchased two charging cords there. Not expensive and worked great...
One mustn't forget that in all likelihood she's just plain embellishing her Camino experience. Lying. Making things up. That's what writer's do. Makes it impossible to find a swimming hole that never existed in the first place. I highly doubt she actually walked the majority of the Camino. I...
Pet peeves and dislikes on the Camino?
No particular order:
1. Graffiti.....immature, selfish, destructive, illegal and based on the quotes just plain boring. I feel quite sorry for anyone who would get inspired by such banal scribble.
2. Pilgrims who put their packs on beds and on chairs in the...
While I totally get the need for some type of rules, conditions etc for staying in albergues I personally think there's times it is quite OK to bend the rules, as in the case of the peregrinas in question. It was quite obvious they were pilgrims and I suppose actually being there and seeing them...
Sure, why not?
Any type of walking workout is great for pre Camino training and I can definitely see how a weighted vest would simulate wearing a backpack.
Physical training before walking 800 kms is a must. That's total physical training to include nutrition and core/upper body. It seems to...
I almost never use my cellphone when I walk the Camino so probably 75% of the time it's turned off. When it does need charging I just do it whenever. I certainly wouldn't leave it or anything of value like money, wallet, documents etc unattended ever while on the Camino
The meseta for all practical purposes is the stretch between Burgos and Leon, but more well known as the stretch between Carrion de los Condes and Leon.
It's farmland, plain and simple. Not desert nor a barren wasteland. Definitely doesn't challenge one's mind or soul due to its flatness and...
I've had best luck with the knee to almost knee length compression type underwear. Gusseted, support pouch and 100% synthetic. The term compression is a bit misleading because they're not that tight.
I've worn different brands like under armour and jockey.
I can only recount in my experiences as a first responder I recall two instances of people killed quite dead by lightning strikes and zero people dead or even injured by wild boars/pigs and this was an area with a high population of such.
Having lived in areas known for wild boars/feral hogs etc almost my entire life and having personally sent more than a few from forest to freezer my advice to pilgrims and future pilgrims is no worries on the path. They truly are more afraid of you then you are of them and the ones responsible...
For what you are carrying that pack should work fine and you can clip the sandals to the outside of the pack.
Most pilgrims (myself included) carry more than they need on the Camino.
The bears and wild boars don't concern me. You're chances of being attacked by one is less than your chance of being struck by lightning.
Reckless, rude bicyclists on the Camino path? Now that frightens me. Way more chance of being injured by one.
I buy two sodas at the start of the Camino and after drinking the contents reuse the bottles as my Camino water bottles. I use sodas or similar because the bottles are thicker and have more secure lids than the ones used for the bottled water. They last me the entire journey and I throw them in...
I stopped and ate at that one, too. :D
I was starving. All I had for breakfast that morning was the usual nutritionally flimsy coffee and toast and later a protein bar are the area of the military reservation up on the hill before you walk down into the city. I got the typical combo meal with...
Very true. The average Camino walk for the average pilgrim would make a dreadfully boring movie to someone with no knowledge of the Camino. Just check out 99.99% of the youtube videos on the Camino. Not very entertaining or even informative at all. Usually scored with some over dramatic music...
"Almost nobody can put on another person's kit, especially footwear, and just walk for a month"
I could right now literally pick up a basic kit of a pack, sleeping bag etc and walk for a month. Sure, I gotta tweak the pack to fit, but I could get it to work. As far as the footwear I've watched...
