@calamity37 - That is very impressive! At first I thought why would you walk the Camino in reverse?! Then the more I thought about it the more I thought how walking it in reverse is much more like the original pilgrims would have done, they would have had to walk back as well as walking to...
Thank you Margaret and Kanga. Hmm that is a tricky one. After last year on the Del Norte I was hoping to pack really light for the de la Plata but it seems this just won't be the case as the weather might be cold, hot, wet or dry. I'll now research some packing tips for the de la Plata in that case!
Hi everyone,
Starting to plan my first stage of the Via de la Plata for next year (thanks for all the good advice so far) and just wanted to ask for advice for something that was concerning me. In regards to the weather on this route I understand the summer months can be very hot and so the...
Hello again :) I found the Gronze website after I'd started the Del Norte last year. Very useful site. Not heard of the rutasantiago site I'll check it out. Any advice is very much appreciated so thanks again :)
Hi Donna, I'm thinking the Sanabres as probably will be the only time I'll do it as opposed to if I do the French route in the future. To be honest haven't started looking at the logistics of the route just yet. Last year we walked extended days of up to 40km but we also balanced this with short...
Hi James, Kelly 2018 looks good doesn't it? I'm going to go with trail shoes (trail runners). I found my walking boots more a hindrance last year on the Del Norte so won't be using them again for a camino. Best of luck for this September, I hope you get chance to let us know how you are getting...
Many thanks for the advice, appreciate it! Ideally I'd do it all in one go but not possible with a full time job. I was so lucky getting the time off last year for the Del Norte but I wouldn't be able to do that again so I have to do 2 week stages at a time now. I'm actually excited by how...
Hi all,
After a successful first camino last summer (Del Norte, Bilbao to Santiago) I'm itching to get back on the open road and plan my next Camino.
As a change to the Del Norte route I've gone for the Via de la Plata to experience something completely different. I'm hoping to walk the route...
Hey there, really appreciate the kind comments! I'm envious you will have an amazing experience! We took the same route for our first Camino and completed in 21 days. However that did include having to take some buses as there is simply too much ground to cover in that time. You have almost...
Sorry maybe my posts didn't convey the weather as well as I would have liked. There were a few wet days but on the whole the weather was perfect. Sunny and warm but not too hot :)
Day 18 (Sobrado - Arzúa) around 21k - today was ridiculously humid. Rained in the morning then just grey and cloudy but really warm with what felt like no air. The majority of the walk was all tarmac which was not pleasant and judging by the looks of all other pilgrims wasn't pleasant for them...
Hi everyone,
Just want to say a big thanks for all the great advice given last year. My friend and I walked the Camino Del Norte in July 2017 (Bilbao to Santiago) and had a most wonderful experience and time. We're planning a mini Camino this July and just finishing our original walk (Santiago...
I hope you had a great experience!
I'm walking the Camino del Norte starting tomorrow so I'll be happy to fill this in in a month's time if that isn't too late.
Best of luck with you dissertation
I hope everyone is having a lovely weekend :)
Does anyone know by any chance whether at the campsite in Latas (2km from Somo) you need to bring your own tent or whether you can hire one there? My friend and I aren't planning on bringing our own tents after reading advice in the forum so we're...
Hi everyone!
I hope you are all well. My friend and I were wondering if anyone has cycled parts of the Camino? Just mulling the idea over and wondered if anyone had hired a bike to cycle anywhere on the way and if they would recommend it?
:)
Thanks for the advice that's what we intend on doing after spending a night in Bilbao :) Love that city as we go to the music festival each year there and have met some great friends so thought it a good place to start the camino (well from Portugalette) :p
