Have a great time, Chrissy!! May all your beds be comfy and all your café con leche hot 🍀 Buen Camino

Bugs / Insects on Route Frances

Wearing light coloured clothes in the evening can help with mosquitoes, but not with midges … nothing will deter a determined midge. I once tried the strongest Jungle Formula but wasn’t happy about using such a strong DEET product … it didn’t work properly anyway … The best solution was...

Bugs / Insects on Route Frances

And I thought it was because I eat excessive quantities of garlic 😄

Not unless he’s mastered the skill of living in two parallel universes 😉 Ivar is only in SdC. 🙂

Bugs / Insects on Route Frances

The Lake District can be just as bad 😄 I once camped in Ennerdale and my arm was black within 2 seconds of putting it outside the tent in the morning. Should have moved further away from the water! 😉😄 Edit: No bites, just irritation while they’re on my skin. Mosies don’t like me, midges don’t...

Bugs / Insects on Route Frances

I always carry a tick remover that looks like a sort of flat key - in my card ‘case’ (within which I also have plenty of room 😉) I remember using a net over my hat somewhere after Lorca, to keep those tiny black flies out of my face. It was the only time I used it. (late September)

    RIP @annakappa

@annakappa walked at the same time as us, in September and October 2009. I remember sending her a PM, as I thought I remembered meeting her. She was a lovely woman, kind, warm and open. I wish her peace and warmth for her ongoing journey … Buen Camino, Anne ❤️

    A long (winding) road.

@mspath I love the way so many of your photographs hold the mystery of the path ahead. They really are so apt for this thread!

Movie "The Camino Voyage" on Amazon Prime

Thanks for the tip! I hadn’t realised it had become free to view. It’s a wonderful film and I loved that song that @Robo found on Youtube ❤️

Some of them …. (remainder of comment omitted for the sake of irrelevance to original post.)

    Rough In Planning Support

I would always plan my pack contents. When we walked I came on here, communicated with a couple of people, booked a room in SJPdP, ‘phoned Orisson, and then we winged it, stopping when we felt like it. There were far fewer albergues then but we managed to avoid most of the ‘stages’. I agree...

Fleece, thin down or both under North Face rain jacket? (Leaving tomorrow)

I took a thinnish fleece and an insulated waistcoat and my waterproof. In many decades of walking in the hills and mountains, I’ve only once put in a pair of rain pants. I’ve given up carrying them. Merino base layers will keep you warm by day and at night; wear your fleece and/or down if you...

    Take my vitamins?

    Take my vitamins?

??? I didn’t think @GreenCat meant that she makes her own pills, from my reading of her post. She is from the UK, where very broad spectrum enzymes are available, in one capsule, not as several different products. I’d take mine on camino, especially for the many dishes made with pulses and...

    Cheese

I bought a round of Arzua Ulloa in a lovely little shop that only stocked a few foods from Arzua. I believe the people who owned it made the cheese themselves. It was in the old town and was a tiny shop, on the left walking from the direction of the Cathedral. This was in 2009, so the shop may...

Might you have been in a parallel universe in 2014? 😉
