Thanks for all the advice. I booked two tickets from Madrid airport to Logrono with Alsa for August 15 and the system accepted it, so i have to "assume" the Fiesta de la Asuncion wont be a problem.........

Trains and buses / oh my !

My daughter and I start our adventure on August 15 which is our arrival date in Madrid from Toronto. Our starting point is Logrono, and we plan to end in Burgos before returning to Madrid for a couple of days as tourists. This trip is about time together for the first time (I am 65, she is...

I had some great news yesterday !

My first round of research I have chosen the following places. My daughter does not want to go to go to Albergues ........(did I do a bad job raising her ?) Anyway, if anybody has stayed at any of these your comments are welcome, and thanks in advance Logrono - Pension Logrono Najera - Hotel...

I had some great news yesterday !

Starting to plan more seriously and date set for August 15 start (probably worst time due to crowds and heat, but only workable dates). Would like to treat my daughter to a nice hotel in Burgos, but the Parador prices are exhorbitant. Would welcome a suggestion for a nice hotel and spot for...

I had some great news yesterday !

I plan to do my first Camino next August and planned to go alone, with the only exception being having my daughter join me. I had asked her, but she was ambivalent as she had a young family. Well, she told me yesterday she is coming with me ! I am so excited for this opportunity spend time with...

Albergue or Hostel? Which are better & cheaper

While I recognize that the communal spirit of the Albergues is an important part of the experience I am wondering if a private room in modest hotels may not suit me better for privacy / security / dare I say lower risk of bed bugs ? If that be the case, is availability easy between Logroño and...

Plans and dates set - advice please

Thanks, should not my first Camino end in Santiago ? It seems feeling the triumph of those that have done the whole thing may be worth the trip

Plans and dates set - advice please

So, I have settled on flying to Madrid Friday August 31 from Toronto which brings me into Madrid early am Saturday September 1. Travel via train to my starting point and walk to Santiago until September 6. Assuming I am at the starting point X the afternoon of September 1, I could walk a...

    FICS & the 300km

I am not sure that I would feel “honest” if I was granted a Compostela after only 100 Km. I plan to do 5-7 days of the Camino for my own reasons some of which I suspect remain undiscovered. Perhaps it will be much like a solo motorcycle trip I took a few years ago from Toronto to Wyoming and...

GPS Tracks from Saint Jean Pied de Port to Santiago de Compostela

To be clear (for the tech clutz in me). I downloaded the App and it gave me the map of my area (Toronto). When I arrive in Spain, I simply download the maps then or do I have to find and install a file before I leave ? Sorry if this is obvious to you.......

    FICS & the 300km

I plan to do Sarria to Compostela as my first Camino next Fall, just cannot afford more time. It would be nice to get the Compostela, but the piece of paper is not why I am doing it. Perhaps I will return and do more in the future, time will tell as I retire in 2 years.

GPS Tracks from Saint Jean Pied de Port to Santiago de Compostela

It would be wonderful if there was a way to load the gpx. file to an iPhone. I have loaded files in past to a Garmin GPS, but trying to minimize electronics for my walk next year.
