    How busy is your stage?

Yesterday I finished my first Camino, the CF. Found the route and accommodations not very full. Local food and accommodation providers bitterly complaint that the Camino is very empty, less than half of the business than last year same time. As the recipient of those services, that resulted in...

    Snakes alive!

Fairly harmless. But then I live in South Africa which has plenty of non-harmless snakes.

    Snakes alive!

Saw two snakes. Last one, four days ago, four days before Santiago on the CF.

    Holy Week 2018 - Question

See how it is on the day. I grew up in the Alps and the spring weather changes very quickly; for the better and for the worse. So anything is possible. On the first week of walking the Camino - just take it sweet-n-easy. Let your body get used to it.

    Holy Week 2018 - Question

Hi M Planning to start on the 28 or 29 of March from St Jean. Weather permitting - if the Pyrenees are still snowed in i might change my starting point. AND(!) french ATC strike permitting - If i cant fly from Madrid to Biarritz due to the strike then i might take the bus from Madrid airport...

For Sale/Wanted Cape Town/South Africa - Gear to buy

Good; I went to the one on the 3rd of March. Very useful and good discussions. Amazed how many people want/planning to do the Camino from the Cape area! Please note - their advice to get the ultra light sleepingbag - not possible, all sold out, everywhere in SA. When are you planning to go? I...

    Now I Pack

Good going! It is amazing what one learns about our needs vs wants. I would consider dropping the Camelback but keep the rechargeable batteries. Shampoo, toothpaste, soap, etc etc - i would empty them to +-25% of the qty in the containers and buy them along the way.

    Now I Pack

I am not sure how other people weigh their packed backpacks as there are many variables - especially what one wears on the body. So if it is cold and raining, more will be worn and less is in the pack. Plus does the backpack weight include what one has in a waist bag/sling bag/pockets? Does one...

    Now I Pack

Hi Penny I see your point but for me the Brierley book would also be a place to take notes, kind of a travel journal. I already dropped my second book!! And that was hard.

    Now I Pack

Hi Rob I love my books too much; Brierley can stay. No headphones; might be the sunglasses holder or the small camera (undecided if to take or keep at home) Nolan Hoffman, local & international athlete and three times winner of the Cape Town Cycle Tour! I suffered this year up Chappies...

    Now I Pack

Similar - a few "like to have things" all of the sudden just weigh too much. Interesting the gap between perception (it weights nothing) and reality (just too heavy).

    Now I Pack

I was lucky - my better-half went away on a girls weekend away. Just had to feed the clan but otherwise a quite weekend "to play" with my Camino stuff. I never weigh my stuff until I am nearly finished. Too stressful otherwise.

    Now I Pack

Packed and On the Body Stuff in front: (9 days to go - so "there might be changes")
