    Camino Salvador Albergues

My wife and I walked the Salvador in 2019 before heading to Santiago along the Primitivo. Bendueños was a beautiful stop and well worth the diversion, even with the stiff walk up the hill. Sandra made a great soup for our dinner. By the way, she will also come to Herías to pick you up if you...

    Sleeping bag liner

I use a Sea to Summit liner. I opened up a seam about 24 inches short of the bottom, sewed up each side and put some Velcro buttons on. Works great.

    Orisson alternative??

Last summer we stayed at the Gite Antton. The folks there were great, and the accommodations were very comfortable. I do not remember the food they prepared for us, but I do know we had a great time around the table. They picked us up at Orisson and dropped us off again the next morning.

    Contemporary Anglicans in SdeC

My wife and I had the pleasure of attending a service at Iglesia de Santa Susana this summer when we rolled into Santiago. It marked a perfect point of closure to this year's pilgrimage. Our time after the service with Rev. Kay and his Camino friends was also wonderful. Thanks to Ms. Yates for...

Walking Poles on the Primitivo. Yes or No.

Here is a study from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and another one here from Sports Medicine Int'l Open, and then here from Harvard. There does appear to be evidence that poles help. By the same token, it seems to me that the decision to use poles or not is akin to talking about the...

bed wanted in Orisson 11th Sept hostels full

Francoise, Two summers ago we enjoyed staying at Gite Antton, because we were traveling with a group and there wasn't enough space at Orisson. We found the albergue very comfortable. Arantxa, the hospitalero, was warm and welcoming. We walked up to Orisson, had our beers, then were picked up...

Dinner for 16 in Logroño - any suggestions?

I'd recommend Pasion Por Ti, along Calle Laurel. We had a group of 18 eat there last summer, including someone with limited mobility. The food and service were great.

    Coping with Post-Walk Depression

I would recommend Alexander Shaia's book, Returning from Camino. I have not read it yet, but I have heard him speak and have chatted with him about the same subject. He has some pretty keen insights and reflections on re-entry. And I agree with emvb. There is definitely an emotional overlap...

Can't wait! Your description just gave me goosebumps!

Traffic jam on the San Salvador

Thanks! We have laid out an initial itinerary based on the assumption that the albergues we've chosen will have room. We have also planned to call ahead at Poladura and Parajes for dinner reservations and have been in contact with Sandra at Benduenos about the best time to call her on our way...

Traffic jam on the San Salvador

It certainly sounds like the Salvador is becoming more popular. We plan to start out from Leon around July 4. Anyone have an idea of the pilgrim traffic we might see at that time? Also, has anyone seen annual statistics for travel on the Salvador? I know the percentage of overall pilgrims is...

    Mattress covers?

On our first Camino, I ordered bed bug sheets from the UK (purpleturtle.co.uk), since we could not find them in the States, and we didn't really know what to expect in the albergues. They were extremely light and compact. They were coated with Permethrin (which I'm fine with); however, we were...

I dream about my wheelchair camino but need some answers

I have so enjoyed reading your story here. In fact this whole thread is inspiring! In 2015 my wife and I walked for a few days with a group from Paris (Compostelle 2000), as they pushed and pulled four friends in trekking chairs. They were walking for a fortnight on their next to last section...

    Orisson hostel

My understanding is that Orisson is open only from March to October. Our experience has been that return emails from the albergue can be slow generally, but even slower out of season. That being said, we've loved our stays there, and they have been very helpful.

    Class of 2019

We're planning to return this summer to help our young friend, Gabriel, continue his pilgrimage. Last summer we started in SJPDP and ended up in Logroño. This year it's on to Castrojeriz. If you see us, say, 'G'Day!' There'll be about ten of us pushing and pulling Gabriel in his trekking chair...

Your one picture that captures how you feel about being on the Camino!

This is Gabriel and team on the first leg of his pilgrimage this summer--SJPP to Logroño. A powerful experience for all of us. (This summer, on to Castrojeriz...)
