After a year of planning, i bought my plane ticket and had a panic attack! i have traveled the world and never had this experience. I called a friend. She gave me great advice and it worked: “ just breathe”.
I had that same thought in 2018. BIG mistake. Getting from madrid to sjpdp is very difficult. from madrid you need to fly to pamplona, then bus to france. Go direct to france. Trust me!
whatever you buy, get a half size larger than your usual foot size, to allow for swelling as you hike these long distances. It makes a difference. I also recommend running shoes, not hiking shoes. You are mostly walking on flat ground, not hiking over rough terraine. Makes a difference. As for...
Wonderful, and thank you! I have no idea where my destination lay. I wrote down the location just as it was stated in my travel itinerary. You have got me started on sorting this out. So excited to try the CP!
I will be in portugal in september, and want to extend my stay at Muge, Salvaterrade, Mergos, Santareim ( located in the Tagus Valley), and do a portion of the camino portugues. Can anyone advise if my destination is anywhere near an entry point to the Camino there?
I also flew into pamplona then bussed to sjpp. But when i got back to pamplona, i stayed two nights, partly because i already needed to rest my body a bit. This worked because i got the rest i needed in one of the most fascinating and beautiful cities in northern spain. dont miss it. However...
I walked the camino in september- october and did fine with just a silk sleep sack. It is light, warm, etc enough for any indoor stay. ( when stuck overnight at an airport once or twice since then, i have found this sack very useful). During october it was cold a few nights, so i slept wearing a...
I don’t have experience with either, but have you gone to a good outdoors store to be “ fitted”? This is what i did, and it worked for me ( small back also).
i blogged every day from my ipad using Wordpress. Like you, i had never blogged before and i was a little daunted by the thought. But i needed to keep family and friends updated....(they were
so worried i would be eaten by a bear!). Wordpress is inexpensive enough. I found the free blog tools...
Addendum to the above: and in those driving rainstorms, i wore baggies on each foot over my socks, and that kept my feet dry ( until, when arriving in Santiago in a pouring raging rainstorm, i stepped into a deep puddle)
I brought only two of those cheap, clear, compact plastic bag-like things, sometimes sold as an “ emergency raincoat”. Basically, it is a poncho that goes over your head and has a hood. It wont keep you warm, but it will keep you dry. The advantage being that it is loose enough to fit right over...
Another note...i had the same second thoughts. I had been merrily planning my camino for months. Then i bought my plane ticket and nearly fell apart with fear. Not like me at all. I was consoled by a friend then i started packing. I never regretted it. The camino has something for you. Go and...
As a 68 year old woman in sept 2018, i walked the entire camino frances alone, safely, and successfully. Do it! As i explained to my worried friends and family, one is never alone on the camino, and neither will you be, especially if you walk in may as you plan. You will be alone very rarely...
