What is your favorite (affordable) restaurant on the Camino Frances?

When I did CdF in 2018 I met a guy in Roncevalles and we walked together the following day, stopping for the day at some random town halfway to Pamplona. There was only one algergue in that village and no place to eat. We were starving and asked the owner where we could get food. He said the...

Walking the Camino with knee bursitis

Hi. I tore my ACL last fall. Was planning a Camino this spring. I just met with my surgeon for the 12-week follow up (a checkpoint in ACL recovery) and he gave me the okay for my April Camino. Like you, my concern was whether all the walking could cause damage. Like you, he told me that it...

    Small hip/shoulder pack

    Why is that?

Is a sleeping bag or a liner enough for the Camino in April?

I left SJPdP the second week of April and ended in Santiago the second week of May, back in 2018. I had a very light sleeping bag (rate 40 degree) that weighed about 600g (1.25 lb). I didn't need it every night but on the nights that I did I was happy to have it. My normal (20 degree) camping...

For Sale/Wanted For sale Altus in USA

Oh wow. And you prefer the XL? Interesting. It doesn't hang too low? I'm 6'1" so I think I'll order an XL when I get around to it. Thanks for the input and apologies for derailing your for sale post.

For Sale/Wanted For sale Altus in USA

How tall are you? I've been planning to get an Altus but don't trust their website height/size recommendation.

    Small hip/shoulder pack

Thanks @ShellToucher . Looks very well designed. I put it in my shortlist for bag options! How big is the large pocket? Any chance you have a video of the bag showing off various features/usage?

How light was your backpack for Camino Frances (800 km)

Ha ha! When I used to ride motorcycles there would be people arguing on forums about how to get their bike lighter and lighter, investing hundreds and then thousands of dollars to reduce a few ounces here and there with titanium this and carbon fiber that. Inevitably, someone would point out...

How light was your backpack for Camino Frances (800 km)

I'll zag from the rest of the group here and say I think 3kg is possible, though difficult. My Frances pack was a 30L weighing in at 13lb / 6kg, including a full 1L water bottle. I probably could have gotten it down to 10lb / 4.5kg but below that I would have needed to get pretty spartan for...

    Small hip/shoulder pack

Some really good options. Thanks everyone.

    Small hip/shoulder pack

What have you used for a fanny pack or small shoulder bag on your Camino? My last Camino I used a small, thin REI passport purse that fit my passport, phone, and wallet. This time, I want something large enough to accommodate a sketchbook that measures 9 x 6in (23 x 15cm). Give me ideas, from...

    Sleeping Bag?

No, it's from Feathered Friends (the Flicker Quilt). Be prepared for sticker shock if you look it up. I bought mine a decade ago as a buy-it-for-life purchase and it has served me well, not just on the Camino. But definitely not for everyone.

    Sleeping Bag?

When I did the CF in 2018 I left SJPdP the second week of April, so similar to your timing. I debated the same debate you're having, ultimately taking a very light down bag that converts to a quilt-style blanket. It was rated for 35-40F and weighs around 600g (not including stuff sack), so not...

USA - So I just got a start date on the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT)

That's awesome. Congrats! I'm an east-coaster so I'm more familiar with the AT. How long is the PCT supposed to take at normal pace?

    April start advice sought

Hi. I'm doing my second Camino this spring. I plan to walk the Frances (SJPdP) with a Primitivo detour, starting April 1. But my schedule is flexible so I'm tapping the forum for experienced insight into when would be best to start. Two considerations: 1) My prior Camino was 2018 (Frances)...

Are you planning your (next) camino? Well, I am

I did the Frances in 2018 and have been itching to go back ever since. Currently, I've planned for an early April start so our paths may cross, @alexwalker . I'm thinking for this dive I'll try a classic Frances but with a Primativo flourish and finish it off with a gentle Finisterre. And to...

    Multi-timers: Compare your Camino experiences

Yeah, I did only one (CF in 2018) but it was kind of a dual-experience: I started in SJPdP alone and then met my 75-yr-old dad halfway (Leon) and we walked to SdC. It was great to see it through his eyes but there was a definite shift in the experience. Of the two, I liked the alone walk...

    Multi-timers: Compare your Camino experiences

I am very curious to hear people with multiple Caminos under their belt compare their experiences on each Camino. To be clear, this is not a thread seeking rankings or 'the best' or any silly click-bait like that. Rather, I'm curious how your experiences changed each time: what you liked or...
