Help! The walking pole makes me feel like the walking dead!

It sounds to me like you are overthinking the use of poles. I got used to mine by just casually walking around the neighborhood with them. I try not to grip the poles to tightly. This lessens the arm fatigue. Sometimes I use them in parallel to my feet( right foot and right pole forward at the...

What was in your pack when you finished?

The first year I walked the Camino Frances in early spring. Carried TEVA sandals that I never wore. ARG! My feet were so tired by evening that I needed the support of boots to walk. The second year on the very muddy and wet Via de la plata I carried super light plastic shoes from the dollar...

Walking the Via de la Plata in May 2019

Your goal seems very aggressive, but some very fit folks may find it manageable. The spacing between towns and albergues, and challenges due to weather related detours can make it difficult to walk a consistent distance each day. We walked most of the Via de la Plata last year and found that we...

    New to camino need help

Starting in Roncevalles , and walking to Pamplona, and a bit beyond might be cooler that time of year. Stay in the Albergue in Roncevalles if you can. It is an experience. We have found good information on the bus service between towns on Booking.com. Many Europeans walk the camino for a week...

Dry Feet ... Is it possible?

Last spring on the Via de La Plata we experienced similar conditions. I wore REI rain pants to keep the rain water from running down my leg into my boots. I also wore very good ASOLO leather hiking boots that have a gortex layer built in.. I treated my boots with waterproofing before I left and...

I found mine at costco. It comes with a stuff sack. I think it is for sitting under while you watch TV. it is 5 ft x 6ft and weighs 15 oz. Woulld not work for a really tall guy, but it works great for me, (5' 6" normal weight)

VdlP Packing List - 1st Draft

On the VDLP I found the down blanket was enough for me. Ocasionally I also used the albergue's blanket. On both of my caminos I have had to walk in very heavy rain, where the rain pants saved my boots. Otherwise I would have had water soaking thru my pants, and running down my legs into my...

VdlP Packing List - 1st Draft

This is a good start, but I suggest you start eliminating things. I walked the VDLP starting March 2018. It is remote, and can be wet and difficult. Towns are far apart and days are long. I recommend you ditch the cooking stuff, the shower shoes, ( wear your sandals to the shower), and anything...

Vdlp pack transport and shoes recommended

I walked the VDLP, starting in March 2018. It was wonderful, but very different from the Caminos Frances and Portuges. I highly recommend high top waterproof (gortex lined) sturdy hiking boots. I wore ASOLO leather boots with a gortex liner, I was able to walk thru many of the numerous streams...

    Sello requirements from Ourense

You need 2 sellos per day if you start in Ourense. If you have other sellos from walking to Ourense you should be good with one sello per day. We always get our sello when we check into the albergue at night. we got another one during the day. It was not a problem for us.

Starting in April 2019 - avoiding crowds so we don't have to pre-book

The Spanish have the week off between Palm Sunday and Easter. Many of them walk the Camino Frances that week. Albergues on the camino Frances will be crowded. My husband and I are in our 60s and have walked 2 caminos. We walk very slowly, and prefer to mix albergues with pensions and private...

    Coffee in Spain

Ye, Cafe con leche. Either this or the tiny, but intense café sólo will be enough v to get you going. The camino is about letting go and simplifying . Dont worry about the coffee. Spend your worries on getting well fitting socks and boots/ shoes.
