…and my shoes are sold out (Altra help/recommendations!)

A vote here for the Via Olympus! I wore them on our camino from St Jean to Santiago and they held up great!

Please Recommend Lightweight Backpack On Camino Frances

I am 5'1" and 116 lbs. I used an Osprey Talon 33 (older pack I got about 10 years ago) and it was perfect for my size! They have a great warranty policy also. My pack was shredding in some areas after 500 miles and I sent it in for repair. Osprey replaced it with a free new one!

    Surprising myself!

My husband mainly did it because I wanted to. He enjoyed it but there are other things he'd rather spend 45 days on! I did miss my grandson and family terribly so I think I'd be just as happy with a shorter camino. Maybe the Ingles? 🙂

Death of an Indonesian pilgrim on the Camino Frances

When we were walking in July this past summer, there was a bad heat wave and we felt it prudent to take a bus on 2 different days for 10 minutes to shave off some miles and prevent any ill effects from the heat. So sorry about this pilgrim and for his family. 😪

    Surprising myself!

I think if I do another one, it will be a shorter one. It'll be fun researching!

    Surprising myself!

As I was walking the Camino Frances this past summer, I was thinking a lot "this is hard and I don 't think I will ever need to do this again!". Well now that I've been home for a month, I can't stop thinking about it! I'm already itching to do another one! I guess I shouldn't be surprised...it...

I have checked 2 Asian grocery stores near me with no luck. :-(

    Aquarius orange flavored drink

I am going to try the suggestion of finding a Japanese grocery store near me. Hope I'm successful!

Descent from Cruz de Ferro to El Acebo

We took the road down last month because my husband had hurt his foot and didn't want to risk further damage doing the rocky descent. We found the road to be fine. If you stay alert, you can pretty much always see and hear the cars coming. There really wasn't that much traffic and we never felt...

    Aquarius orange flavored drink

That is a great idea! I will look into it. Thank you!

    Aquarius orange flavored drink

Hi Ivar....I saw that same article on-line. Guess I will have to travel more to get it! On another note, when we finished our camino to Santiago, we visited the Pilgrim House on Rua Nova. We were so close to your new place that I wanted to stop by and meet you! I thought that might be intrusive...

    Aquarius orange flavored drink

I drank this while on the Camino Frances last month and just love it! So much better than Gatorade. I was looking on-line to try and find it in the USA with no luck. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how to buy it? Thanks in advance for any help! :)

Change of rules on checking in hiking poles at SCQ airport

Just an update...our poles arrived today from Santiago about 1 and 1/2 weeks after we mailed them. They were unharmed being packaged in a padded envelope. So glad we chose this option since we paid about $100 for each pair. For us, it was well worth the money to ship them home. :)

Change of rules on checking in hiking poles at SCQ airport

Just last week. 2 pair of trifold Black Diamond in a padded envelope. Hope they come through ok!

Change of rules on checking in hiking poles at SCQ airport

We didn't want to check our backpacks in so we sent our poles home to the US via Correos. The cost was about 28 Euros. Just another option.

    Pack weight question

I also brought a sun umbrella and ended up not needing it. We started walking very early in the morning and were usually finished with our stage by noon. We did the meseta part in July. We found hats and sunscreen were enough so I donated the umbrella at an albergue. Just a thought.

    We finished our Camino Frances!

We are flying home today from Paris and I noticed this in the bottom of the shower at our last hotel!!! The camino will always be with us!!!

Any advice for when you want to quit?

The only thing I would add that I didn't see mentioned is to maybe send your backpack on ahead with one of the transfer services. We have used Jacotrans, which is only 6 Euros to send a pack ahead, on really long or hard days. Its OK to just carry what you need for the day and lighten your load...

Is this man and shop still present in Castrojeriz?

We stopped into this man's shop today! I needed a new daybag as the one I am using is falling apart. I indicated what I wanted and he rummaged around a few places and found a perfect lightweight Altus day bag that folds onto its own pocket! What a delightful stop on our camino!

LIVE from the Camino @Paula P on the Francés

Just an update! We are in Logrońo. Yesterday we actually took a bus for a 10 minute ride to shave off some miles because the heat is so bad. I wanted to walk the whole way but knew a ride might be inevitable at some point. I worried so much about the downhills to Zubiri and after Alto de Perdon...
