Thanks much, BL! Still no quotes yet for airport shuttle rides from https://www.findtransfers.com. Great idea for a ride-share calendar for this forum. Maybe Ivar will consider it.
But if not BlaBla, aren't Uber & Lyft services available virtually everywhere? Just FYI, I haven't had any offers yet, but I also "applied" to an outfit called Airport Transfers (https://www.findtransfers.com) which says "Not only do we want to help people find the best transfers at the best...
OOPS! Goofed that reply somehow...
Hi BL,
I did look into BlaBlaCar, but it didn't have a late trip (after I arrive EAS at 5:50PM) to SJ. For that I would have to overnight in San Sebastian, then take the earliest car the next day. That might just be one of my least stressful options.
Thanks for this, Wayfarer, for I am a stupid-question asker. (However, I do bother to search the archives first, then ask away if I don't find anything relative there.)
I didn't realize Hendaye bus station was in France! A short taxi ride from EAS airport. (Do I have to go through a time-consuming customs stop at the border?) If EVERYTHING goes as planned, I just might make it to St. Jean late 2 Sept. to start the climb 3 Sept.
Hello Thomas! I've just spent the last few hours working all the angles to go from San Sebastián airport to Bayonne, then on to SJPdP. So far the best bet seems to be the 816 bus out of Hendaye bus station in San Sebastián. I downloaded the bus schedule, but can't figure out how to turn it into...
Hi Andy, thanks for this suggestion. I'm checking out all configurations to get to SJPDP using Rome2Rio and BlaBlaCar (website for Spain is only in Spanish... Using Google Translate to decipher). I'm a bit apprehensive of booking a train ride though; aren't they on strike now —or— is that all over?
Flying into San Sebastian, Spain on 2 Sept. around 6 PM to start the CF on 3 Sept. Can anyone please suggest the most efficient/cost effective way to go the 60 mi/1.5 hrs. from there to St. Jean same day? Taxi? Uber? Bus?
Thank you everyone for your concerns & thoughtful advice. I do have a slight case of scoliosis (just discovered that with a recent back Xray). I tend to lean forward while using my poles like a skier (especially on inclines), and leaning forward often alleviates some of the discomfort. I did...
Cc: My pack does have hip & sternum straps which I cinch up as tight as possible which feels good & snug. But when I have the hip straps fastened so the pack is sitting on my hips, the shoulder straps extend up above my actual shoulders and rub against my neck. It feels fine when I first put it...
Hello. Starting the CF on 2 Sept. I'm 67/5'7"/145#/reasonably fit. Training since March. Walk 8-12 miles 3-4 days/week. Introduced hilly terrain last month. Walked 20 miles yesterday, just to see if I could do it. I did finish, but it hurt! Only major issue is upper back pain (aching & burning)...
I start my first Camino in early Sept. as well. To save some travel time to/from the arrival/departure airport(s) and any other cities you wish to visit while in Spain, check out www.goeuro.com for low-fare, short flights between cities. My walking buddy & I will arrive Barcelona (BCN) on 2...
Sorry, please forgive this newbie! I should have read the above posts more carefully before posting my questions. I think you all have addressed my concerns about sleeping equipment.
I'm walking the CF from SJPdP to Santiago 2 Sept > 10 Oct 2018. Is the weather usually cool enough to need a sleeping bag or comforter for warmth at night? Another question: Do the albergues provide sheets, pillows and/or blankets for their guests?
Hello everyone; American senior-citizen-newbie-deluxe here. My travel buddy & I will fly into Barcelona on 1st Sept 2018. We are walkers, but have never done anything like this before, plus we are not Spanish speakers. Our return leg to Toronto is on 13th Oct. 2018, so we have 6 weeks to get the...
