It started at dinner about serving a veggie meal, and escalated from there - I think it was near the end of their stay; the albergue was packed (!!) and they were nearing their melting point. Needless to say, in the bathroom the following morning, I asked how another pilgrim had slept "Not a...
Glad you made it to those special places! There are many ways to do it. We ended up taxiing from Jaca to Santa Cruz, dropped off our bags at the fancy hotel there, and walked up the well marked trail (no road hike necessary) to the Monastery to enjoy a lovely lunch at the top, explored, returned...
A very nice Camino - much lesser walked by people from the States, and plenty of services at the beginning of May 2023. We served at the albergue in Canfranc for two weeks in late May, we served 89 pilgrims from 28 countries and 6 continents. The only pilgrims from the U.S. were friends of ours...
I've started 2 Caminos in the afternoon - St Jean to Orisson (came in from Lourdes) and Astorga to Murias de Rechivaldo (!!!) (came in from Madrid). I enjoyed those little stages to help me prepare for the longer days ahead.
I left Lourdes early, and arrived in St Jean at lunch time - Pilgrim office closed, but it was important to me to get my first stamp there, so I had a wonderful lunch and then the office opened, I got my stamp and walked to Orisson. A wonderful first day on the Camino!
I would definitely consider a part of the Frances for that time of year, with a novice, etc Maybe Leon to Santiago for a Compostela, or Pamplona to Leon? ...Enjoy, Sue!

I'm hoping to walk the Primitivo early October, 2024 and wonder how it's been for you as you walk this time of the year, specifically:
1) have you encountered many pilgrims?
2) are most albergues open?
3) have you had to use a light sleeping bag?
4) how cold/wet has it been?
5) have you had to...
I freely admit to being a Luddite and have found that keeping my phone on airplane mode while traveling works for me. I only use the phone when I have access to Wi-Fi - which works even on airplane mode. I can take the phone off airplane mode and use it to make calls if necessary, which I did...
