The best shoes for such a trek are after my own experience and also among many others I spoke to? Buy Hanwag shoes. 830 kilometres without 1 blister or other foot problems
For me, HANWAG stands alone at the top. Fantastic shoes. The shoe salesman guaranteed that I would not get blisters during the 830 km trek. Of course, I did not believe that because I had hardly practised. But it was true: I walked the entire Camino del Norte and did not have a blister!
Great, I see the same weather conditions as in April 2014. The magnificent views along the entire north west coast never bore. Now after 8 years still regularly nostalgic for this beautiful route
Don't miss the English albergue at Miraz, I agree.... And of course the albergue de peregrinos de Guemes in Cantabria. (Last albergue before Santander)
Of all the books I have read about the camino, I found Shirley Maclaine's book the least interesting and even the most irritating. It is about the camino, but while reading it I found that she herself had lost the way. My favourites are: Jean-Christophe Rufin: Compostela and Hans Annink: A late...
Del Norte is indeed an experience. No walk in the park but after every effort you are more than rewarded with a magnificent view. And after Ribadeo, a beautiful route through the interior of Galicia. And the big advantage: you are not part of a mass of pilgrims
I slept the first night of the camino in bar pension restaurant Bidasoa. I ate well and slept well. And certainly not expensive. Later I saw that this hotel didn't have such a great review. But maybe I had prepared myself for the fact that I became a pilgrim and didn't have to set the demands so...
There are some pilgrims who walk the Camino from Bilbao (because of the airport there). And that is really a shame. The distance Irun Bilbao can be walked in one week. You should consider walking this section very carefully because it is a beautiful (perhaps the most beautiful) part of the...
Dear Charlesstones, a nice advance notice. You still have plenty of time to look forward to it. It is a beautiful route, I often think back to it. Not always easy but the reward after the effort is great. When you are on the road, you should leave a message on this forum. Buen Camino!
It is so nice to read that you have experienced the same at the Camino del Norte as what I experienced there. It's so enchantingly beautiful in north west Spain and Galicia! A few stages are not as great as the long walk along the pipeline, but immediately afterwards you will be rewarded with a...
When I walked the camino del Norte I ended up in a group of very nice fellow pilgrims who had an average age of 35 years, I think. I was 65 at the time and I've never felt like 30 before. Best of all, I was one of them and there was never a moment when my age came up for discussion. Full...
With all due respect, unfortunately I cannot make any sensible suggestion on this subject. And not because I think it is not serious ...... It is remarkable that it is discussed here. What a Camino cannot achieve all!
I also ran the camino de norte from Irun. I can not remember that this bridge was so scary. Have more enjoyed it from the beautiful view. Oh yes, I am suffering from height fear!
