Friends of the North Highland Way - We now joined the British Pilgrims route

We planned a pilgrimage to some of the churches in 2019 but never got round to writing them up. Churches and cathedrals visited were Kirkwall, Armagh, Lincoln and we even found one in Spain but not on the Caminos. I promise I will look it up and post here. We will be going to Lincoln in...

Friends of the North Highland Way - Camino of St. Brian

Some years ago, we floated the idea of the "Camino of St. Brian" and St. Brian Arrowsmith. It is no doubt accurate that he was not a pilgrim as we know them, but he has been accepted here, so we are delighted.

Friends of the North Highland Way - Connections with Spain strengthen

Scotland and Spain are culturally linked, and those links get stronger with the forthcoming International Womens Day on 8th March 2024 Global Climate Change week from 14-18 October 2024. We continue our research on the route of the Spanish Armada, and have found links in Aberdeenshire and Fife...

Friends of the North Highland Way - Competa is not on the Caminos, but Chichlana de la Frontera is

Friends of the North Highland Way have an environmental remit, as well as walking, cycling and horse riding, sustainable travel at its best. Competa in the Axarquia was the first village to receive green accreditation through the Malaga Hills Boutique B&B. This was a big step for the village...

You are right of course...but we are doing it anyway.....in this area no one works together. They have wanted the North Highland Way for 30 years, and we still have difficulties.

Cycling on the North Highland Way

Friends of the North Highland Way now have cycling on the North Highland Way. Off road cycling that is. In Scotland we have core paths which are maintained by the local Council. They are not joined up and quite short in places. Our objective is to join them up and make the North Highland Way.

We have started to add those accommodation providers with green credentials to our web site, such as the Forss House Hotel. https://www.forsshousehotel.co.uk/ Not the usual bunkhouse, but a beautiful site. A stated, the Council does not have a list. The Long Distance Walkers Association also has...

Accommodation on the North Highland Way

We are now doing beach cleans on The North Highland Way, and on the east coast between Inverness and John O Groats, ie the Moray Firth Trail. This is another great trail to follow. We have also linked up with Orkney, who have a Pilgrims Trail, and with Northern Ireland where we source...

Software - North Highland Way, Scotland

It is not marked yet, but it is there. There are sections which need sorting out but it is walkable. I have done it many times.

Software - North Highland Way, Scotland

No. That is just another web site.. not approved by The Highland Council as mine is. I am reluctant to put my link as it may be construed as advertising and do not want to upset Ivar.

Where else can you go... there is a pilgrimage in the Orkney Isles. I hope this is not advertising, if so then I will remove.
