Walking the Camino de Santiago and Planning for the Laugavegur Trail: What to Expect Physically

If you walk as you have indicated then the likelyhood is you will finish stronger than when you started. A question might be "Will I be mentally ready for a July trip having just walked 800km or will I be mentally sated?

Camino “families” - how cliquey or impenetrable are they mid-way through a Camino?

I have only done 3 caminos - all the Frances. The first two we great, friendly inclusive etc. The last was relatively lonely as the groups were primarily language based and many of the others we married couples. There were very few solo walkers like myself. Having said that the lessons learned...

    My Camino training

Hi mark You sound military. I use a slightly modified Vahalla ALICE pack. Very comfortable and weight does not seem to be a significant issue - unless I don't keep up the training. I do like the feeling of walking distance under load. Hope your training is fun and helpful.

My first packing list for a decade and not pleased ....

Very true dougfitz. I just wanted to suggest we can get too concerned and that within reason, injury, pace etc. the little extra weight does not matter as done right we build up strength the meet the situation. I liked your balance and thanks for your response. Stay safe. Frank

My first packing list for a decade and not pleased ....

Weight seems to be an osession for Camino walkers. I have been under pack for 50 years carrying upto 40kgs and regardless of my age I notice that I settle into the weight and develop the capacity to carry it. (Admittedly the heaviest I have carried in the last 5 years is 25kgs but up some scary...

    I have lost myself

Hi Matt Your story is, to me, a familiar one and not just relating to Camino. The matters you mentioned might well be call spiritual issue or matters on meaning. I have found finding a Spiritual Director very helpful in finding my way through the fog of lostness. If you decide to seek one out...

    Backpack Capacity (DaveBugg Bait!)

In addition I loose pack anyway. I am often asked how heavy my pack is and am pleased with the smiles as the person picks it up and realises it is about the same as theirs.

    Backpack Capacity (DaveBugg Bait!)

Yes! How do you know? I have only ever carried a reliable 65L pack and do not worry too much about weight as I train with more than I plan to carry. I this instance I wonder if size matters? Perhaps the disciple of a carefully considered and faithfully followed "what do I really need?" protocol...

Pack it in, pack it out

Getting through immigration and customs at Madrid airport

I am wondering whether catching a plane to Pamplona might be another option. It is easy to get from the airport to the Old City Centre and costs about 1.50 Euros by bus. You can see the bus stop from the airport entrance.

    Cookwear lunchkit necessity?

In addition I carry a 15cm X 8cm (6" x 3") collapsible microwave safe bowl and have learned how to cook a number of meals using it. From Sarria onward there is very little provision of utensils in the Municipal albergues.

    The Camino will be waiting...Australians

I live on the Central Coast NSW and next year will move to Newcastle - 70km away. I expect the vaccination rates to hit the right % before October 2022 so planning for a Pamplona departure on 1 October. Fortunately my life as evolved to match the Camino opportunities that are potentially available.
