The "distance certificate" - something to consider

Yes it looks pretty similar to that -- I have just looked back and have a picture of it on a webpage I wrote about my adventure (scroll down to the bottom): http://www.wartnaby.org/running/camino/index.html Maybe I got that because I explained I did not want the compostela, and in fact feel it...

The "distance certificate" - something to consider

(I haven't been here for a long time but was still getting the emails and saw this subject line...) It wasn't a big deal, but I was refused the distance certificate because I'd done my 100+K *too quickly* -- I ran it in one day as an ultramarathon, getting masses of sellos along the way -- but...

Favorite Via de la Plata YouTube Video?

It was on 30Aug2018. Weather-wise, it had been pretty dry I think -- I encountered very little mud, and conditions were pretty warm for me; staying cool was a problem. So it may not be at all representative of what one might find on that section in general, especially at other times of the year...

    Here's mine (only from Ourense):

Santiago to Finisterre (90km) in one day

Thanks guys -- it was quite an adventure, for sure! I wasn't too worried about the distance certificate thing -- I was conscious that the system is set up for pilgrims, not athletes! -- but I guess it's down to the discretion of members of staff, and it was just something they hadn't encountered...

Santiago to Finisterre (90km) in one day

The best of luck to you tomorrow! And yes, much hillier than I was expecting (even though I'd looked at the profile). I was seriously undertrained for the descents -- my quadriceps were in pieces for about the last 30 miles -- but not a day I will ever forget! Video here if you didn't see it and...

    Why the hurry?

I love the even-handed sentiment here -- and totally agree that there should be no judgment of others choosing to go fast, or slow, or long, or short (well unless they take taxis and claim they've walked of course). But as someone from the opposite end of the spectrum -- who did the minimum...

Rely on the waymarking, ignore your apps!

I did the VdP from Oursense and the problem with arrows I feared was that if I missed one (which I did several times) -- especially one directing me to take a branch off a more major track -- it could be a long time before self-doubt set in and I would feel I'd have to backtrack to find an...

    46 km a day

She went with the floe, so's to speak, not an option on the Camino! >Figure St. Jean Pied de Port to Logrono in one long day. Eek! I did Ourense to SdC in 13hrs, as an ultramarathon -- 114km, including going a bit wrong. Couldn't walk too well for the next 3 days or so though, so I think the...

    Pilgrim passport, number of stamps

I actually asked if it would have been OK if I'd spent 5 days over it -- yes, was the answer! To be fair, the system was set up for pilgrims, not those attempting sporting stunts like me. Having queued for about an hour to get to the desk, I didn'really fancy trying to argue anyway...

    Pilgrim passport, number of stamps

I'm not worried about this (I enjoyed doing my Camino as a challenge anyway), but the "two per day" doesn't make sense as a rule to me. Unusual I know, but I ran the last 100km in one day as an ultramarathon, so in principle I could have got one stamp at my starting point (Ourense) and the other...

    Non-religious staying at Auberges

There are three things: a welcome certificate, compostela (religious) and certificate of distance (non-religious, for a few Euro). I ran the Camino last year and being non-religious, definitely wanted only the certificate of distance, not the compostela -- you get to fill in the register with...

Some questions about stages, distances and etc. on VDLP

I ran just the last section from Ourense last August (in one long day), and only passed maybe a dozen pilgrims all day actually out walking -- so you should be fine if you prefer to walk alone, but I guess that means there wouldn't be so many people to talk to in the evenings, especially at a...

Running the Camino Frances - Gear? Any experiences?

Wow, that was a real adventure! Good idea if you have one runner to have the other partner cycle.

    Sello "timing"?

It is a bit arbitrary, though I can't really complain as I did it in a completely non-spiritual manner, and so did not want the religious compostela certificate -- I am well aware the whole system was set up for genuine pilgrims, not athletes. For me it was just a bit of fun to go for it anyway...

    Sello "timing"?

I ran the last part of the Via de la Plata in one day as an ultramarathon last summer (114 km, including going a bit wrong!). I thought the "two sellos per day" rule didn't really work in my case -- I could have got one in Ourense, one in SdC, and that would have been it, but I was sure that...

Running the Camino Frances - Gear? Any experiences?

Ha thanks guys, to be honest I was in a pretty bad way by the end though -- definitely more hill training next time! (Not easy in Cambridge, UK -- it's totally flat here...) My legs were completely ruined for days -- and all those hills, steps and cobbles in Santiago to walk down with the family...

Running the Camino Frances - Gear? Any experiences?

I did the last 100km+ of the Via de la Plata as a one-day ultramarathon last summer, during a family holiday at SdC; I have a bit about the kit I used in this video, and on the webage: http://www.wartnaby.org/running/camino/index.html But that's a bit different because I didn't need any...
