Hi Glade
Greetings from a fellow Aussie with big feet.
I wear US15/EU49-50 shoes in a wide fit.
In 2019 I walked the Frances in Keen boots.
They were effective but relatively bulky and heavy and my feet were always ‘hot’.
This year I’m walking again in September.
Unfortunately, I cannot...
I'm 197cm and walked the French route in 2019. I'm walking again in 2024.
We mostly stayed in Albeurges and I would honestly say that the bunk beds were not a problem (mostly). The steel frames have plenty of gaps to sick your feet through and all you need is a little bit of padding. A spare...
Hi Jessie
I’m currently walking the CF from St Jean to Santiago and through to Finisterre. We’re currently in Burgos and as a family of 4 (parents and two teenagers) we have not always found it to be easy or straightforward to stay together. If this is important to you and your extended family...
We were in Barcelona a couple of weeks ago and got a similar warning from Vuelling. IMHO: They are covering their backsides. In the end we had no problems at all.
Take the rain jacket or a poncho. That soft shell jacket won’t hold up to a solid/lengthy rainfall which could certainly happen in Autumn.
On a related note, we will be starting our walk 8 days after you on the 9th.
Buen Camino.
Satechi make a really decent unit. Similar to the Ankur, it is multi voltage and uses a standard figure 8 power cord, the same cord that has powered electric razors for decades. If you buy the cord in Spain then you won’t need to carry an adapter and with a long cord you can have the charger...
Yes! But be careful and ask the right questions. My experience with Voda was that crossing the border meant a roaming rate was applied. Depending on the provider/plan you might be better off purchasing the SIM in Spain.
You'll need something for sure. Personally, I hate the feel of the microfiber tek towels - they are kind of grabby on the skin. Use one and you'll know what I mean.
I use scottish woven linen. It's light, super absorbent and dries quickly...
I’m wearing my Keen Arroyo II sandals as I read this thread. They are new and do not have the stretchy bungee laces. They are solid core, rounded and not stretchy at all.
Perhaps Keen were listening.
I'll chuck my 2 cents in here. I also have wide feet and purchased a pair of Bondi 6 late last year as I'd heard lots of positive stories.
I was initially very impressed with them and the cushioning is very very good, however, after the initial settling in period, I became a little unhappy with...
Hi @tomishy
Sorry for the late reply but it's been a busy week and I wanted to give you a measured response.
Logged on today and I thought 'wow', the answers just above say it all and I've little to add (thanks Katie and Tuaruin).
I purchased the Peak Aspiration which is really larger than...
If you use poles the issue will likely go away.
That being said I looked long and hard at the Osprey packs. The belt pockets are somehow just poorly designed. They're a little awkward to get to and the zips jam, often requiring two hands to open (one hand to tension the pocket and the other to...
Thanks @Africa - the photos are a great idea and your friend seems to be carrying the PA without any issue. You are correct in that I don't need to fill it up. Also, I'm a lot taller so I don't expect to have any problems with the size of it.
@Kanga thanks also, and you've just made something...
Thanks @Louis Lloyd that is a very valid point and another forum member has recommended the Peak Aspiration. I guess I'm gonna need to drive to Sydney and try on both.
Thanks @Africa for the quick response. The Peak Aspiration looks great and I'm actively considering it. This is how the rankings are shaping up so far in my mind:
1. Natural Exhilaration (arguably best volume for Camino)
2. Peak Aspiration (superior hip belt system but might be bigger than I...
Thanks @Anamya - I'd not seen that bag before and I note it has some mixed reviews online around comfort and durability (although these do appear to be in the minority.
PS: I'm a few hundred km outside of Sydney so am contemplating a day trip into town. :-)
