I'm following your posts! I plan on doing Salvador and then the Primitivo starting Oct 8. I would like to see if Albergue's are open along the Salvador. I may take a tent also, but October could get very cold.
Buen Camino
I'm starting Le Puy on March 28. I've emailed several places that don't normally open till April 1 or later and they stated they would let me stay if I gave them adequate notice. Really looking forward to this Camino.
They hand out 1 page maps with altitude, all towns on the camino, and distance between towns at the Pilgrim office. They also hand out a list of Albergues.
Dave,
I noticed you don't use a pancho. Do you have any problems with your stuff getting wet? I'm considering putting items in plastic baggies to be sure this doesn't happen, so I can eliminate my 13 ounce pancho. I've heard your shoulder straps can wick the moisture to you interior items...
Bill,
Curious on when you will be starting Primitivo and where? I will hopefully be starting in Oviedo on April 27 or 28th at the latest. I'm traveling alone due to some extenuating circumstances, so was wondering which others would be walking.

I feel so unworthy after reading this. I have a deuter 42 l(3lb 13 ounces) that is built like a tank, but have a Osprey levity 45 l (1lb 14 ounces) still in the box. I'm trying to decide which one to use for my start date 3 weeks from today. I did a test pack today and had 13 lbs with 3...
Bill,
I'm starting the Primitivo on approx. April 27 and will be bringing a long pancho, rain jacket, and lightweight synthetic down. I'm still trying to decide on lightweight sleeping bag or silk/cotton liner only. I sleep hot also, and guess I could always sleep in clothes if I'm too cold...
Leon Albergues are extremely busy. I stayed at Santo Tomas de Canterbury last year and was very happy. It is 2.6km from Leon's main center, but buses are 1 euro. The towns after Leon tend to be busier as well, so you may not get your first choice, but there is always something available. I...
I'm starting on April 7 and will be taking a lightweight gore tex rain jacket, pancho (purchased in St jean last year), and a extremely lightweight synthetic down jacket. Based on my experiences from last year, you can use all 3...lots of rain and temps as low as 36 degrees. My pancho extends...
Brian, I am doing the Primitivo on approx. May 1 from Leon, with Salomon Trail runners with mid height gaiters to hopefully prevent the mud from getting in my shoes. I've heard there will be lots of rain and mud this time of year.
I was wondering if anyone knew where to find high quality poles in Madrid? I bought some poles last yr but they ended up breaking half way through my Camino.
I started from SJPDP on April 11, 2018 and will walk again starting April 8, 2019. The Camino was not crowded until you reached Leon, but it was still very nice, with lots of pleasant people. The weather was cool at the start of most days but warmed up on most to end up in a t-shirt. Due to...
