Back in March I got the urge to do a camino. At the time coronavirus was just lifting it's head in Spain but it didn't look like it would be any major problem, and I wasn't planning to go far, I thought I would just try a different route in Galicia, so I started in Baiona on the 12th March!!
I...
I have recently been fined in Italy for forgetting to do this so I thought I would raise awareness. This does not apply to Spain, but many European countries, France being one, and Italy definitely being another, require you to stamp ('composter') your ticket before you travel. There are little...
I did what I set out to do. I have posted info on the accommodation I found on the VF forum.

It was a wonderful experience, far surpassing any Camino...
Barcelona airport has been in chaos for several weeks now as security people work to rule. Now the threat is moving to other airports, A Corunya has agreed to wait until 24th September and Santiago is discussing what to do. The airports are open it simply means that queues to pass through...
I've just walked the shortest camino ever!! I had good reasons for doing it the way I did even if I made totally the wrong decisions but I might have done things differently if my info on accommodation had been up to date so here is what I have discovered.
Rielves - parish shelter. The PP...
My guide book and map show that after crossing the N403, about 6k after Almorox, the path goes into woods and turns north and continues straight to M507, about 1-2k later. What they don't mention is that there is a cross-roads (or cross-paths) where I could find absolutely no signs so I...
I have read somewhere that the convent provides accommodation, I'm not sure where I read that or if it is true but I will try. If I can't stay there then it will have to be a hotel in town. I notice that many people stay at the Hostal Campo but it seems to be in an area of discos and cocktail...
I like to stay in municipal albergues whenever possible, I also like to self cater so I try and choose albergues with kitchens, for others who think likewise here is my experience. I must stress that walking at a different time of the year or on different days of the week will make for a...
I walked from Zamora without my guide. only with note from Mundicamino, which I found to be out of date, as usual, but I think that any guide is out of date for this stretch of the camino. Mundicamino says that Villar Farfon is deserted and the Levante guide does not mention the Albergue.
3km...
I have just walked from Valencia to Toledo. I think my camino bug is now cured. As usual I have blogged. http://notdunroaminyet.blogspot.com
I'm going to walk from Zamora to Puebla de Sanabria next week, I've booked and paid the Albergue for Easter Sunday;) but I really believe that that will be...
I plan to do the Levante in March, arriving in Zamora on the Thursday of Holy Week. It looks to me as though the Good Friday procession is at 05.00 on Friday morning. Does anyone have experience of going to this procession? Has anyone worked as a Hospitalero/a in Zamora in Holy Week? I seem to...
The Madrid friends have posted a list of albergues and services on the Camino Madrid, dated October 2014. It even has a phone number to contact the holder of the keys to Wamba church :) It's in PDF form and, obviously, it's in Spanish but being a list the words and abbreviations are basic...
After t-shirt weather last week it snowed here this morning. It hasn't stuck and I can't see the mountains because of the persistent clouds but I have just been out to get wood and my fingers nearly froze, it is suddenly very cold. Good luck to anyone walking at the moment.
As I stay almost always stay in municipal albergues and cook for myself I will just make a short note of my stages and the albergues I stayed in.
Oviedo to Escamplero via the Naranco sites, probably about 16 kms, maybe less.
The keys for the municipal in Escamplero are held in the bar El...
Tomorrow I start the El Salvador. Today I am in Leon, the Albergue has changed since I was last here, if anything I think the beds are closer together but they do have pillows. The weather today is perfect for walking, I just hope it stays that way. I'm not technical so I will post and blog...
For those who understand Spanish you may be interested in this series of TV programmes about Romanic architecture. Much of it relates to places on the various caminos.

I hope it can be watched outside of Spain, I'm not sure.

Yesterday I drove into O Barco, via A Rua, and there were bright yellow arrows in places I have never noticed before, both leaving A Rua and in O Barco. It seems that the friends of the camino have been very busy recently. Those of you planning to walk soon should find the route well signed.
Day 1. I planned to stop in Peralada but it was a warm weekend and Peralada is a very pretty, touristy little town, popular with the French so there was only expensive accommodation left. I ended up walking beyond Vilabertran, to a Comercial park just outside Figueres and stayed at the Hotel...
Anyone walking from Huesca to San Juan de la Pena needs to be well provisioned. Loarre is the last place with any kind of decent shop for several days. The shop in Loarre is the bakers but he keeps a reasonable supply of other goods but no fruit or veg.
There is a bakers in Sta Maria de la Pena...
