Whilst I am based in North Yorkshire I fly to and from Stansted Airport with Ryanair. I am doing this again in June, while I then need to return home on the train after a month away it isn't too much hassle. Not aware of Ryanair's flights in November but the one I am booked on gets me back to...
I don't think I would have concerns about it getting cold after a day of walking. In Sarria when the barman asked me whether I wanted a large or grande (not sure which) I indicated with my hands about 1 foot/30 cms apart. He looked strangely at me and went to the back of the bar got me a...
I won't give you advice re medication but one thing that helps, or conversely doesn't if you get it wrong, is when going down steep descents then gently place your foot rather than "bang it down"!
Atapuerca is another place that is worth booking - if available as I have seen pilgrims having to get taxis to Burgos if nothing is available locally or at San Juan de Ortega or Ages.
As an "older" (ancient?) member I like to know where I will be staying so I book everything in advance (train ticket to the airport, flight, taxi to SJPdP, accommodation all the way to Santiago (wing the bus ride to the airport!), flight back to the UK and train ticket home). However that is me...
Normally if I see cows on a path/in a field I stick close to the edge, looking at the height of the hedge/wall, and wonder if I can still do the high jump 60 years later than in when in my prime. I believe that in the event of an emergency as I unbuckle my rucksack when I see them approaching...
I am sure that they should be able to accommodate you with others if you are flexible on pick-up time. Just get them to put you on their list and check a week or so before how many they are due to pick up. You then can decide on whether to use them or bus/train instead depending on cost. Pity...
Your way may be better than mine but I tied up all the straps with lots of string and knots and then, at the suggestion of the airline (Ryanair), took the rucksack to the large cases check-in area where I presume they don't throw them around so much in case they hurt their backs! All went well.
They either don't hear you coming so they don't move off the track to let you pass and frequently ignore a friendly Buen Camino as presumably they can't hear the comment.
I guess that, deep down, it is my perception that they are missing so much of the sounds of nature around them (or even the...
I would only add to the guidance above is that when walking downhill a) go slowly b) gently place your foot down and not "bang" it down as it is so easy walking down rather than up c) when very steep slalom is good but also, as I have big feet, is to go down at an angle using poles if a narrow...
When I retired 21 years ago I had always wanted to walk the Pennine Way (268 miles) in England/Scotland. We discussed it and my wife was happy for me to go. Since then I usually go for a "long" walk once a year for 2/5 weeks staying in touch by phone each evening, she knows my itinerary so could...
Having looked at Hotel Monaco's website what does "Casualty, Stocking, Loud" signify re the accommodation?
Edit: Had a thought, is it low, Medium and high season?
I stayed at the Monaco in 2019, not far (100 yards or so) from the square and church. The square is a good place to sit and meet up with fellow pilgrims, and there are a couple of cafes with lots of seating outside. I had a really good pilgrim meal in the Monaco hotel in the evening - 12 euros...
As you can complete a marathon, which for most is about mental strength than speed/fitness then I would go for the longer distance. Adjust your pace, start early in the day, take rests (eat, drink and chat) a shame to come that far for 100kms if you could complete a greater distance - double...
