    Sanabres "Glitch"

Following this thread and taking notes as I’ll be continuing the VdlP/ Sanabres from Zamora in June. I wasn’t planning to book ahead so hopefully there won’t be any problems finding a bed. Buen Camino to all

Demographic of VDLP pilgrim in recent years

I walked with my husband last year and we met quite a few couples from France, Netherlands, Latvia, a few other Australian men and a few younger German females so an equal mix really.

    Starting in May on VDLP

I walked the VdlP last year starting in Seville on April 24th and it was already very hot ( and I’m from Australia so used to the heat ). My tips would be to be prepared for pre dawn starts and to finish walking by early afternoon. Take lots of water and I used a sun umbrella which helped...

How do you wear a hat with a backpack?

I wore a legionnaire style hat for my first 3 caminos and then took a euroschirm umbrella last year for the VdlP. It was great. Provided shade and kept my head cooler than a hat. Was also good the one day it rained.

    Perth to Paris?

I am from Perth and hope to return to finish the VdlP camino this year with my husband who will also be celebrating his 70th. We walked the CF ( our first ) in 2017 and flew Paris with a connecting flight to Biarritz and then made our way to St Jean Pied de Port. I’m currently looking at flights...

    A long (winding) road.

Thank you @DoughnutANZ for starting this thread. I like seeing everyone’s photos as they bring back wonderful camino memories and you inspired me to watch the slideshow of my VdlP photos taken last year. I wish I was back there !

    A long (winding) road.

Another one from the VdlP May 2023. This was the only time it rained and only for a few hours in the morning. The path to Zamora.

Thoughts on walking Camino Sanabrés in June

Yes I realise there are no guarantees with weather and whilst I found the heatwave conditions in Spain last year unpleasant for walking it was manageable with very early starts and I was thankful I had a sun umbrella and that was in April . The upside was only a few hours of rain one day. I much...

Thoughts on walking Camino Sanabrés in June

Thank you @Lindsay53 . Had we continued last year we would have been leaving Zamora at the end of May so timing wise June this year is almost following the same dates, just a year later. I’m glad to hear there was never an issue finding a bed as I was concerned it might become busy for the last...

Thoughts on walking Camino Sanabrés in June

Thank you @geraldkelly . I have read your guidebook and used the app last year walking the VdlP which was very helpful . I have just found your forum posts from the walk last year so I will read them to get a first hand account of what to expect in June.

Thoughts on walking Camino Sanabrés in June

Thank you @NadineK . I have been using an exercise bike for my knee rehab and recently finished watching your videos of the Camino Sanabrés. It is forecast to be 41’C here in Perth today so I’m definitely used to the heat , although I don’t go out hiking in the heatwave conditions. I’m glad you...

Thoughts on walking Camino Sanabrés in June

Thank you for your response. I found the VdlP that we walked last year too hot in April/ May but thought it might get cooler in Galicia. Seems April might be a better decision.

Thoughts on walking Camino Sanabrés in June

Happy new year ! New Year, new camino dreaming and planning. We will hopefully resume the Vdlp/ Sanabrés that we started in April last year . We walked from Seville to Zamora and due to a knee injury stopped there. This year we will start in Zamora and continue along the Camino Sanabrés to...

    Celebrating my old age

A wonderful way to celebrate your birthday. My husband has enjoyed several camino birthdays ( his 69th in Salamanca ) and I was thinking we might aim to be in Santiago for his 70th next May . We are now hoping to complete the VdlP/ Sanabrés in April next year and then have a family celebration...

When to walk Via de Plata

We started from Seville on April 24th this year and it was already very hot. Early morning pre dawn starts, lots of water and handsfree umbrella helped.

Tips for walking in the heat

Sorry to hear you had a fall. I walked the VDLP from Seville this year April- May and also sustained an injury ( knee fracture ) so had to stop in Zamora. It was heatwave weather in April which was unexpected and I’m glad I had a handsfree umbrella. Now I’m trying to decide whether to return and...

Planning again - VdlP & Sanabrés (from Zamora)

If you are starting in Merida in March you should be ok with the hat and arm protectors. It was the first camino where I’ve used an umbrella and the weather this year was unseasonably hot in April. I only used it on the very hot days with no shade and it is extra weight to carry. I didn’t really...

Planning again - VdlP & Sanabrés (from Zamora)

I bought a Euroschirm swing after your advice and was so glad I had one. We started in Seville in April in a heatwave and the umbrella was definitely worth its weight. We only had one morning where it rained for a few hours and it was also good in the rain. The hands free attachment worked very...
