    Camino Norte Adventure book

My blog is on Find Penguins. I used Find Penguins because it seemed pretty intuitive and an easy way to keep family and friends updated with what was going on.

    Camino Norte Adventure book

This past summer, my wife and I walked the Camino Norte. It was our first Camino and we really enjoyed it. We found the scenery to be very beautiful, the food outstanding (for the most part), and the challenge something we will never forget. After returning home, I decided to turn my previous...

Avoiding drop off area before Laredo

Need advise on avoiding the drop off area before getting to Laredo from Liendo. Also, how bad is the climb out of Playa de Berria? Is it dangerous or scary?

    Does it get better?

Thank you for your response. My wife and I have slowed down and are enjoying the Camino more. Hope to eventually speed up a little.

    Does it get better?

My wife and I just completed 2 days of hiking on the Norte. We are now in Zarutz. What I find the most challenging is all the steep rocky hills. Is it steep and rocky throughout or does it start getting easier? I know the Norte is the hardest Camino. I can take steep but steep and rocky is...

Snow on the Norte in June?

Who’s prepared for snow in June? Hopefully, snow won’t be an issue. Supposedly, it should only be at a higher elevation.

Snow on the Norte in June?

My wife and I just got to Irun today June 9 and have heard there is snow on the route and have seen a website showing snow in the forecast. Can anyone confirm this, especially if you are walking the Camino and happen to see this post? I am concerned the Camino may not be safe if it is snowing.

    Scared of heights

Thank you for your responses on this. I don’t think I would have a problem on the bridge but I do get nervous on narrow paths that are along a treacherous falling area with no guard rail. I hope I am explaining that correctly. Bridges are high up but would typically have guard rails which is...

    Scared of heights

I just did a hike which had no handrail and there were parts that were narrow and high in the air. There were parts where I was concerned about slipping or stepping wrong and falling to my death. Are there parts of the Norte like this? I am interested in the Norte but I don’t want to do it if...

    Booking apps

In looking through many threads on here about how people book rooms, it looks like Booking.com is the more popular site. Last night, I did a comparison between Booking.com and Hotels.com and found that Hotels.com had the better price on all three hotels I checked. In addition, Hotels.com has...

    Should I bring a computer?

Hey everybody, thanks for the input on this question. I figured that your responses would be what they were but thought I would pose the question anyway. Based on your responses, I will try going it without a computer. I may if anything bring a tablet but probably not. By the way, no, I'm...

    Should I bring a computer?

I am use to traveling with a computer but not use to long distance hiking. My computer weighs 3 lbs. I would use it for booking the next night's stay or finding places to eat and maybe blogging. My wife and I are traveling in Europe before we do the walk so it would be nice to have but...

Getting in shape for the Norte

Thans for that. I am working on it and probably need to work harder on it. One thing I heard a trainer tell me a couple of times is that you can't out train a bad diet. Meaning if you want to lose weight, it's the diet not the workout that will get you there.

    Reserving rooms

That is exactly what we have done so far. We have our first week, or at least first four days booked. Then, I guess we'll see. We are staying primarily in hotels. We have used booking.com to book our rooms. Did you use something different to book rooms?

    Shirts and underwear

I went to a Outlet store yesterday and bought 2 pair of Under Armour compression shorts that are made of the same kind of polyester/spandex material. I'm thinking they will work just fine.

Getting in shape for the Norte

A couple of people have said that I've already done the Frances which I haven't. Do I need to change something in my profile that I'm not seeing?

Getting in shape for the Norte

Thanks for that. I'm 61 and about 30 lbs overweight. I'm hoping to lose some weight before the Camino and possibly during but that's not why I'm doing it. I'm hoping the training will help me to prevent injury and soreness while on the Camino. Building some stamina will keep me from being...

Getting in shape for the Norte

Wow, thanks for such a lengthy reply. I appreciate it. I don't need to use google too much to look up some of what you wrote about. I work out in a gym about 3 days a week. I play tennis about 3 days a week and have taken long walks of 8-10 miles about 2 days a week. In the gym, I lift...
