    Did it make a difference

Of course you are right that everything we do and experience affects us in a way, but so does even our daily life. Those of us who say it did not affect us really mean it did not affect us more than the ordinary :) In my life I have done my share of long distance hiking so the walking was no...

    Did it make a difference

the worst ist still to come ... wait until the word still will be replaced by the word again

    Did it make a difference

No. No change after my first Camino and no after my second either – and I never expected it otherwise. The only difference for me is the fine memories and the determination to go on a third in a not so distant future. I guess it depends on your life situation, your state of mind and soul, if a...

    SJPDP vs Sarria for Newby

SJPDP to Pamplona is a rather short stretch. Last time I did it in two days. If I had to stop in Pamplona it would have been rather disappointing for me. If you walk Sarria to SdC you at least will have the feeling of having accomplished something, finished something. But then, as others say...

Where do ( did ) you walk locally in 2024?

Walking a happy dog for her birthday walk

What would you change about the CF - if you could?

I would not change much as I think also the bad and the "ugly" are part of the overall experience. And as one is on the road for 3 / 4 weeks at least, the less nice parts dilute to very little in fact. Also, you appreciate the good things more if you have at least some contrasting things ...

Where do ( did ) you walk locally in 2024?

I took our white lady to the mountains as she is in season and it just does not work out well at home with a young male dog who just discovers his hormones 🙈 . So she and I are sort of outcasts, hiding in a cabin far away from home 🤣 After yesterday's heavy storm, today the weather was just...

Any pilgrims or future pilgrims in the far North of Sweden, Norway and Finland? ... Or even Scandinavia in General

For me, from here to Helsinki is roundabout 900-something k walking .. first walking east for a while, then turning right (south) towards Helsinki (which we call Helsingfors) ... certainly interesting but it will be hard to force enough time off ... 🙈

Any pilgrims or future pilgrims in the far North of Sweden, Norway and Finland? ... Or even Scandinavia in General

Sounds really fun :-) But now, from the far North of Sweden, that is a bit far away. Also to start a Camino from here would be a very big project ;-)

Any pilgrims or future pilgrims in the far North of Sweden, Norway and Finland? ... Or even Scandinavia in General

Hei! :) So you also walked in Germany? Strangely enough I never did that although I spent most of my life in Germany. Now I regret it a bit actually! I guess it was a case of the grass is always greener on the other side ;-)

What pushed or invited or drew you to set off for 'The Camino'?

Yes, I know, but sometimes it feels dull to have so worldly reasons and stories ;-)

What pushed or invited or drew you to set off for 'The Camino'?

Yes, and I feel a bit on the boring side with my profane answer 🤣

What pushed or invited or drew you to set off for 'The Camino'?

For me it was a ramp-up before my first Camino. As many Germans I knew the (audio-)book "Ich bin dann mal weg" of the German comedian Hape Kerkeling. This was actually my first and main inspiration. I love long distance walking anyway, so it was soon clear that I would walk from SJPDP to...

If you had to choose to skip a part of the route. What would be your choice?

It might not be as picturesque as Antigua (been there a couple of years ago) ;-) ... but miles of nothing is something many people cannot get where they live. It is an experience very different from their normal life. Also, some people need the nothing to empty their head, others need it to fill...

If you had to choose to skip a part of the route. What would be your choice?

Not at all, it is interesting to me at least.

    Bears

... by a pair of lose dogs a family of hikers had with them. The hikers never understood what their dogs went after.

    Bears

Once in Algonquin I accidentally got as close as 2 meters to a cub (black bear) while mommy was 4 meters away. I would not say I was unconcerned as it was only black bears 🤣 ... Another time a black bear was running straight at me as it was being chased .. so I had to jump out of the way. But...

Where do ( did ) you walk locally in 2024?

Yes, regarding the light here it feels almost like spring! Strange, isn't it ;-) It amazes me every year how fast it all changes.

    Bears

Just to play the besserwisser-card: Grizzlies are a subspecies of brown bear.
  20. Arctic_Alex

    Bears

oh .. it is bears again ... As someone who happens to live at close quarters with European brown bears I must say they behave fairly different from most bears in the USA or Canada. They normally are extremely shy. If you by chance see one brown bear from a distance, there will statistically have...
