When you have to stop, and the lessons.

Your story also sounds familiar. Similar to that of the pilgrim in San Nicolás who regaled the dinner table with humorous tales of a certain Irishman. That was one of the better meals, and with a great group. Vegetarian options and a lot of humor. If I recall, you completed 7/8th of the Norte...

When you have to stop, and the lessons.

I started my Camino on May 11th in Pamploma. It was going great and was such a great experience, education, and overall wonderful introduction to what the Camino can be. Unfortunately, I injured myself and chose to stop in León. This started the day I was heading to San Juan de Ortega. I had no...

Weight, and how its discussion is terrifying me.

Kinda why I started the thread. I've now been in Spain for 20 days. What I originally packed was adequate for the south. However, I find the north colder than I expected. I had to purchase some charity shop clothing to suit. My pack is definitely heavier than I hoped. We'll see how I manage...

    Beginning from Pamplona on Monday.

My last night is at Hotel Pamplona Plaza.

    Beginning from Pamplona on Monday.

I'm not sure if you're asking about the walk for the start day or my intention for the Camino? I am intending to walk to Santiago De Compestela over the next few weeks. On Monday I plan to do the stage ending in Puente la Reina.

    Beginning from Pamplona on Monday.

Just arrived in Pamplona. Relaxing the weekend, and beginning my Camino on Monday morning. Looking forward to a great pilgrim experience and meeting fellow travelers.

Weight, and how its discussion is terrifying me.

Didn't mean to start a conflict here. At any rate, the best thing I've learned is "don't pack your fears". And removing only my fears from the pack, it is now 15lbs/6.8kg without water and snacks. I'm breathing easier. Best to all.

Weight, and how its discussion is terrifying me.

Thanks for the replies. The two heaviest items are the pack itself (Osprey Kestrel 48) at 3.59 lbs/1.63kg, and my 55+ degree sleeping bag at 1.7 lbs/.77kg. No time to return or replace so I'm going with them. I not carrying much more than what I see in lists here other than an extra T-shirt and...

Weight, and how its discussion is terrifying me.

I arrive in Spain Apr26, visit cities for 20 days, then begin my Camino from Pamploma May 11-12th. In my daily life, I walk more than average, and my usual cycle rides are 25miles/40km and up. I've been walking longer lengths preparing for this, and researching what to expect. Probably too much...

Ideas/costs on shipping unnecessary items to the USA from Spain. (Madrid or Pamplona)

Hello, I travel to Spain on April 25th. I visit several cities before I start my Camino. (probably from Pamplona) I was hoping to take along some travel items (Tablet, clothes, etc) that I'd use on the tourist leg of the trip, but not to carry on the Camino. Anyone have ideas on shipping costs...

    Passport/Credential?

Pardon my ignorance. I'm planning to do the Camino Frances hoping to start in Pamplona. I understand the Passport/Credential is necessary to stay in the albergues. Are the Passport/Credentials available in whichever town you start? (i.e. Pamplona.) Or do you have to get them at the beginning of...

    Avoiding the breakfast trap?

Ooo! my A1C just skyrocketed looking at that. So a practical question, any Diabetics walking who might have breakfast plan suggestions/methods.

    Sleeping bag? Necessary? Type? Etc.

I'm beginning my Camino mid-May. I have a 3 season sleeping bag that packs pretty big and heavy. Fine for bicycle camping by I'd prefer not to carry it in a backpack. I visited REI and was completely lost by the types, options, etc. As this is my first Camino, I really don't know what the...

    Practical questions.

Yes, but my Camino is so I can experience the "roughing it" mentioned by tutors in my childhood lessons. Therefore, I've shunted my personal staff off to a friend. They served admirably during my last trip to Davos. Of course, after my walk, I intend to write about communing with the hoi poloi...

    Practical questions.

A great mantra. I actually use similar in my everyday life as I rid myself of unnecessary stuff. In this case, however, I don't know what is essential. My longest treks were on bicycles and only 7 days long. Still, There have been great answers/suggestions to my questions, but I suspect what I...

    Practical questions.

I purchased my flight to Spain yesterday, and arrive at the end of April. I expect to begin the walk in mid-May, and finish in June sometime. I have no finish deadline. I got an Osprey Kestrel 48 on a good deal as my pack. Discussions on this forum suggest a 48 is too large. However, the 38 is...

    Practical questions.

Thanks or the thorough list. I haves some things already that I use for my bicycle camping. But there are many on your list I had not considered.

    Practical questions.

Thanks all. Just the "One set of walking clothes" is info I'd have not known. I am planning some time in cities (Barcelona, Madrid, etc ) before embarking on my walk. I hope to have some of this ironed out before stepping onto the trail.

    Practical questions.

I'm planning my first Camino and had some questions. I recognize everyone is different, as are their choices, but I hope to glean some consensus on a few things. I tend to pack too much when I travel. (less than most, but still too much) As related to clothing, what is necessary for a Camino...

How to get from Madrid to St Jean-Pied-du-Port?

Last question about travel. When the walk is completed. What is the usual method of travel out for non-EU citizens? I'm assuming pilgrims need to get themselves to a major city with an international airport?
