    Questions from first timer

Bob, July / August is when I'm walking. Will trail runners work OK? Scrape off the mud at end of day? And bring 3 wool socks instead of 2? I'm a nightly hand washer of clothes. I have Oofos flip flops, they have fatter soles than regular flip flops (~1") but IMO too slippery to walk in mud...

Tips for Choosing Comfortable Ear Plugs

Just in case you’re unable to wear them, I couldn’t get them to go / stay in my ears and was fine. Friends who had walked the CF said it was a MUST and I was almost panicked I couldn’t get them into my ears since I’m a light sleeper. I also don’t necessarily FALL ASLEEP even after 200K+ bike...

Troubleshooting the Wise Pilgrim Norte app map on iPhone

THANK YOU Wise Pilgrim. Brand new iphone 13 :( I deleted the app overnite then reinstalled this morning and it’s working perfectly. Apparantly shutting off my phone, deleting and waiting 10 minutes last nite was not enough. Not tech savvy here but I just learned one more thing. For backup...

Troubleshooting the Wise Pilgrim Norte app map on iPhone

Thank you everyone. I deleted the app, waited overnite, then reinstalled this morning. Working like a champ. 👌

Troubleshooting the Wise Pilgrim Norte app map on iPhone

Thank you. No difference after cleaning screen. The "Norte" app was useful because it showed the Camino line as blue dots and where the lodgings were in relation to it. Don't see any map at all or lodgings on Buen Camino app. I downloaded Windy Maps but it doesn't show the Camino either?

Troubleshooting the Wise Pilgrim Norte app map on iPhone

After several days of working just fine, the Wise Pilgrim Norte app on my iphone stopped changing map size by spreading / pinching 2 fingers. The picture instantly gets so big when touched I can't even find the dotted Camino line. I tried deleting and reinstalling >> nada :-( Ideas? Fixes...

Trail runners: Altra or Brooks, or Hoka????

I used to wear Brooks Cascadia but my foot doctor recommended Brooks Ariel instead for arch support. She has me remove the factory inserts and use an orthotic arch support inside the shoe as well. Her test for arch support: hold the shoe perpendicular to the ground and press the toe against the...

    Miam Miam DoDo in English

THANK YOU, you're a lifesaver!! That is going to be all I need to walk it in May. I had actually downloaded the MMD free sample app but had no idea you could change the language to English. I went ahead and bought Section 1 for $13.99. Do you know if once I am on the route, my location will...

    Miam Miam DoDo in English

BlackRocker, is MMD app really available in English? Can you tell me where to get it? Thank you, Suzanne

No sub-forum for Lisbon to Santiago Central route?

Thank you, Peregrina2000. That's what I ended up doing (posting in the straight up "Camino Portugues." I recently biked the entire Camino Portugues Central Route backwards (Santiago to Lisbon) and posted a fairly comprehensive trip report to help others who might wanna try the same thing (I...

No sub-forum for Lisbon to Santiago Central route?

Am I missing something? I don’t see a choice here for information on the basic Camino Portugues (Lisbon to Santiago Central Route).

    Snoring

Just finished walking the CF then cycling the CP. Never once wore earplugs, to be fair I’ve never worn them in my life. I’m an extremely light sleeper, too. Maybe because I’ve been on call most of my life, I always had to be *alert* to waking up and have never needed an alarm in the morning. On...

Big Bad Dog on CP just before Alverca do Ribatejo

Lol I saw exactly one other cyclist going my way the whole 14 days I was out. And he was on one of those short stumpy little Bike Fridays. 😈

Big Bad Dog on CP just before Alverca do Ribatejo

This dog was a MastiN not a MastiFF. You don’t see Mastins in the U.S. (I am a veterinarian) but they’re extremely popular in Spain / Portugal as farm and property protectors, not necessarily flocks. They’re long haired and look / act a lot like Pyrenees, but come in all different colors. Indeed...

Big Bad Dog on CP just before Alverca do Ribatejo

Funny you should say that first thing because many times on the Camino, a dog barking at my presence was my first clue that I was going the wrong way.👌

Big Bad Dog on CP just before Alverca do Ribatejo

I just biked the CP backwards from SDC to Lisbon. This happened yesterday, September 28, 2019 on a normal south to north walker’s first or second day out of Lisbon. The place is just before a south to north walker will come to Alverca do Ribatejo (the town where you have to go up stairs into a...

Cycling the Camino Portugues *Backwards* from Santiago to Lisbon, Central route

Ya, that’s why I did it. Even one of the “wrong way” walkers, an Australian guy I had met weeks ago walking the CF, told me he’d been unable to find any info even searching for walking the CP N to S. We were both so surprised and pleased by all the blue arrows. He was intrepid, walked all nite...

Cycling the Camino Portugues *Backwards* from Santiago to Lisbon, Central route

I just finished cycling Santiago to Lisbon, the Central route, Sept 15-28, 2019. Here’s the ride report: My Bike Iberia rental bike rocked and they were a great company to deal with. I was able to fill out all their forms without computer (iphone only) access by screenshotting their application...

Blue Arrows (Fatima route) on Portuguese Camino

So far from Santiago to Porto wind hasn’t even been an issue like it is on a USA cross country. Probably cuz you’re in woods and hills so much. No long flat stretches. Or maybe I have a tailwind so I don’t notice wind against me. 😈 THE issue (which you’ll have either direction) is some serious...

    Book recommendation Lisbon to Santiago

Gracias, looks like the better of the 2 available Kindle books. And absolutely agree about the Wise Pilgrim app without whose blue dot I would be lost every day.
