Thanks for sharing. I'm not surprised because when I was there in 2019 Portugal seemed like the best place in the world and now everyone wants to live there.
I'm so sorry you are having this issue. I spent a lot of time trying out shoes before I left and never found any that were great. I settled on a Saucony pair that had a name like Pellegrino because it sounded like pilgrim and I took that as a good sign. On day one walking over the Pyrenees, I...
I did and I loved them. I bought a pair at REI before my trip and used them for a month, then I found the same pair though a store in Spain and had them mailed to a post office there for me to pick up. I was so happy to have them. My arms did not get tired and for me the poles helped with having...
I feel for you because I wanted to quit so many times. I think if you are feeling torn between finishing and quitting that you will feel better a month from now if you look back and know you did finish. But if the heat and environment are really getting to you, of course take care of yourself.
That seems like a very modest and well thought out list. You may want one more bra and one more pair of socks. I regretted not having one more of each myself. Is the sleeping bag a sac for the albergues? Does your pack feel comfortable? Looks like a good list overall and not any fluff to remove.
Amazing! I love that you are returning again and again. At age 84, you are having your Uranus return in astrology. Uranus is the planet of surprise and the unexpected. Sometimes when we do brave and bold things, as you are doing, we live into our Uranus in a way that makes this transit easier...
I'm so sorry. Please do not lose hope. I feel you. I walked the Camino in 2019 and my Camino was hard. It was hard until it wasn't and now, with time, my memory of it has faded and I want to do it again. You don't know what tomorrow will bring. The full moon is coming and with it lots of energy...
In my memory there was always coffee nearby! I'm vegan and only drink soy or almond or oat milk, which was almost impossible to find, so I did carry my own, but coffee was easily available everywhere. Viva 🇪🇸
Hi Dave, I don't think so. Others may have a different experience, but I never saw or heard of ticks. I live in Northern California and they are a huge issue here. Ditto Massachusetts, my former home. Never heard of it on the Camino. Enjoy.
I have Google Fi as my everyday phone. It works in the US, Mexico, Canada, most of Asia and all of Europe, much of Africa, etc for the same price and plan worldwide. It's awesome if you travel because you don't have to deal with sim nonsense. You just arrive, get off the plane, turn your phone...
My opinion is yes. I spent loads of time going to REI trying on proper hiking sneakers and they got ruined on day one! I ended up hiking most of the Camino in reef flip flops. Totally not recommended and do able. ☺️ If you have well fitting keen type shoes i think you'll be fine.
Sweetie, you have been through a lot. If you feel called to do this and you want to do it and you are excited about it, i bet you will have a great time. And some days will be hard and you'll look back on those and laugh. I know you can do it. It's truly your Camino. No right way. Do it your way...
This is a great thread! I am vegan and had a hard time on the Norte. I only walked it for a week. San Sebastian has amazing food. I would go there again in a heartbeat just to eat at one special vegan place there that was cheap and fantastic!
Otherwise on the Norte I ate lettuce with onions and...
