Safoco, I think it is great that the forum is here to help people with questions like this. However, when planning the same walk in 2019 we did a lot of research on our own and besides the Internet we bought John Brierley's book Camino Portugués and found the answer to many of these questions...
We did the same thing last September. The walk was great. 10km from Porto to Matosinhos. Walking along the coast that first day on boardwalks was very interesting. I kept reading about how uninteresting the walk was getting out of Porto then read about this option on StingyNomads. We ended...
Today on the island of Montreal, Quebec, Canada the temperature at 9am was -14 Centigrade and with the windchill it felt like -19. A group of 11 of us (including 3 who have walked the Camino and a 4th who is in training) walked 21km. Walking conditions were fairly good considering that we had...
Hi Paul
Everything you wrote is exactly what happened in our Porto to Santiago trek last September. One of our group had a CPAP machine and it didn't make a sound and bothered no one. The extension cord comment is appropriate in some locations.
My experience in September 2019 in Rates on the Porto to Santiago route was that our luggage was not at the albergue when we arrived. I presume the doors were not open when the truck arrived. We had to walk 300 meters to a bar to fetch them and upon our return we were given a lecture about...
On Day 5 walking from Porto to Santiago this past September we stopped at Revolta as Stingy Nomads suggested. There was a party like atmosphere at the only bar. Lots of twenty somethings smoking pot, drinking and dancing. We started moving forward and a group of 8 with a portable boom box...
I recall that Tuitrans had a 15kg limit. The cost was about €8 a day and I believe they would charge a little more if the weight was over 15kg. They need to know at least one day ahead and you need to give them your full itinerary for a quote. Other option is to use the Post Office. I have...
Planning ahead for the next Camino and want to improve the experience if possible. On our recent Camino from Porto we stayed at some albergues which were always on the Camino route. On other occasions we stayed at private homes or hotels. Biggest problem was finding the best place to leave...
Hi Glenda,
Having recently walked my first Camino from Portugal to Spain, when walking on a road we walked on the left facing the oncoming cars. On the rest of the paths we walked on the right mostly leaving room for bicyclists to pass us on the left of the path or anyone walking in the other...
I recently completed the Camino from Porto to Santiago. The official distance was 240km. By my calculations unofficially I walked 300km taking into account the non-Camino walking after arriving in a town for sightseeing or looking for a place to have dinner, etc. So, when people ask me what...
I don't recall anyone mentioning this in the replies, so sorry if it was already mentioned. Keep in mind that with your tight schedule if obtaining a Camino certificate is a must for you it might not be possible if you arrive in Santiago too late in the day and you are leaving early the next...
Along with 4 friends we completed the Porto to Santiago route on September 27th. Been home in Canada since the 30th and I believe I have only had one night so far where I didn't dream about being on some kind of Camino!
We were there on Saturday September 28th getting our certificates and the Camino office was charging €5 for the tubes. Pretty steep price so if you can find one at the post office for €1 do so.
