    Photo contest for CP calendar

I’m not sure how this fits the “pilgrim spirit” but one of my favourite photos from our CP. That’s my wife in the foreground.

Has anyone here started early April on the Camino Frances?

We left SJPDP on April 10, 2023 and walked to Santiago. The first morning was beautiful and clear but by the afternoon the temperature plunged and a storm rolled in. We were so glad to reach Roncesvalles and a hot shower. We woke to snow in the morning and walked for several hours with it still...

Memorial Garden for Denise Thiem near Astorga

I was there May 4th. No one else was at the memorial and the church had just opened so maybe there would be more visiting later. The gardens were well maintained, mowed and the sprinklers were on when I arrived. Very beautiful spot.

    Best Surprise of 2023 Camino

We left St Jean at Easter and I definitely noticed and appreciated how much cleaner the Camino was. I had a friend start a week ahead of me and she had heard horror stories of how littered it was, and so had a pleasant surprise. The other thing I noticed was the tree planting that had occurred...

Brisbane peregrine/as - where did you hill train

Mount Glorious and Mount Nebo have some trails with some up and downs, not too far from the CBD, and the Samford Valley has some nice trials, but not with inclines. For longer days or a multi-day walk you could check out the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail.

Spiritual variant - is it worth it?

Yes I recommend it, the Route of Stone and Water isn’t anywhere else on Camino and it’s beautiful. Some hard hills but worth it.

    Douro Valley advice

We didn’t go into the duoro even though that was my preference, looking forward to responses. I really liked the CP, we went coastal and varient spiritual, which I would encourage.

    Questions from first timer

This dog was off to coffee with its master, super Cute and just loved attention. These geese are at Sarria, near the river, always looking for food, not aggressive at all. This dog was off to the cafe with its master

Lisbon - Santiago (via Fátima): Day 1

In Fatima we found the way of the cross/way of the little shepherds very contemplative. We were there at sunset and it was very peaceful. Well worth a visit if you have time.

Breakfast in St Jean Pied de Port

For an indulgent breakfast try Hôtel des Pyrénées. The plates just kept coming. Only don’t tell them you don’t drink coffee! They were still talking about ”no cafe” as we were leaving.

    Autumn Camino Frances Pictures

Not strictly on the Francés but just outside Santiago, taken November 2019, autumn colours that we don’t get in my part of Australia.
