Booked for March 13 starting from Burgos

Not TMI. I would only have 3 weeks and was considering three sections in a 2 year period, the first being SJPP to Burgos. You’ve given me food for thought. Maybe I start with the meseta.

Booked for March 13 starting from Burgos

Why the change of starting point? My May 2020 start plans from SJPP were dashed. I’ve been trying to figure it out ever since.

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Refuge Orisson Refund Policy

I received a full refund from Refuge Orisson. I wrote them asking about it in April - my reservation was for May 10. They responded saying that they were currently working on April refunds and to contact them in May. I emailed them again on May 1 and received my refund on May 11. I canceled...

    Filling backpack guidelines?

That's what I'll be taking in May - the lavender scent. I'll cut the bar in half for my 16 day trek. I've used liquid Dr. B's for years. It's what I use now to bathe.

Women over 60 who DON'T take a sleeping bag...

Remember, age ain’t nothing but a number. And my mother, who passed away at 97, would follow that with "and mine's unlisted." Thanks for your thoughts and buen camino.

Women over 60 who DON'T take a sleeping bag...

Hello backpack45. What brand and model do you have?

Women over 60 who DON'T take a sleeping bag...

I was actually planning on doing that! Give me another month of jiggering, though.

Women over 60 who DON'T take a sleeping bag...

Thank you all! I do think I'm going to be happiest if I take something more than a liner. I like the idea of trying out the system at home. I'm a light sleeper and it even takes a while for me to warm up in bed at night here in my 60 degree house. I don't imagine myself being comfortable...

Women over 60 who DON'T take a sleeping bag...

I'd like to hear from you. I am struggling with whether to take or not take a sleeping bag. I know many people just take a liner, sleep with their clothes/jackets on, rely on a blanket at the albergues, etc. I'd kind of settled on that approach and then read a thread where a number of women...

Starting 27th May from St Jean Pied de Port

    Hi Joseph, Why Beilari? Sharry

    Sleeping bag

Jane, did you use the 40 degree Spark? I'll be walking the Frances in May and have some concerns about warmth at night. I'd talked myself out of taking a sleeping bag some weeks ago, but still wonder if that's the way to go.

Poll How heavy is your backpack?

My first Camino will be in May. I'm using Robo's excellent spreadsheet and am working hard to get it to 6kg. From my initial packing list I've ditched a pair of pants, a pair of underwear, the toe socks I wear every night, a spiky foot roller, my Spanish phrase book, half of my Brierly book...

    Hello All. New member here.

Hi Joe. I start on my first camino on May 10 at SJPP and will turn 66 on May 13! Buen Camino to us both!

    Mail trekking poles to SJPP?

Thank you all! It seems that the advice I've received to "not over-plan" and that "the Camino will provide" is already very useful. I will trust that the poles I will need for my walk will appear once I arrive in France.

    Socks

An inspiring REI employee walked the Pacific Crest Trail at age 70. I gathered from talking to him that it was a turning point for him, as he had a desk job that he quit to be able to do it. It took him four months. He's been doing long hikes ever since and has had his share of blisters. He...

    Mail trekking poles to SJPP?

Does the Pilgrim Office in SJPP hold packages for pilgrims? Do the albergues? After reading a thread on the topic of trying to take poles on airplanes, I've decided I don't want to risk losing them to airport security. And although I have a three hour layover in Paris to change airlines for...

    May 2020 - 1st timer - SJPP to Burgo

Thanks for this. I'm coming from California. After the flights, I'll spend my first night in Biarritz. I get in late (9PM). Then I will try for Bouricot Express the next morning. For better or worse, I did not plan a rest day in SJPP. Hoping to get there in the morning from Biarritz, I'll...

    May 2020 - 1st timer - SJPP to Burgo

Well, I did it! I've got my flights booked and should (if I did everything correctly) arrive in Biarritz Friday night, May 8. Here are my questions: ~ Any recommendations for a place to stay in Biarritz that night? (I arrive at 21:00, if that matters regarding check in time limits.) ~...
