I likewise had a broken ankle (in three places), and have pins, plate and screws put in an operation. This happened nearly three years ago and I am up to 13,000 steps a day, but still have some recurring neuropathy. I hope you are healing quickly and can make another Camino! I’m aiming for next...
You might want to join Camigas on Facebook. It is a very active female Camino group and they have a lot of live chats going on. It could help you with questions, possible other peregrinas, etc..
I don’t want to be the dissenter, but I just wanted to say on both my past Caminos with my two daughters we used our sporks nearly every day because we would get lunch from a grocery after arriving at the albergue, and the sporks were multi-use and weighed nearly nothing. It saved us money! We...
I’d recommend the Portuguese Coastal. I did it in June, 2019. The weather was nearly perfect. (Rain on 2 days of 13). I had done the French way the year before and kind of preferred the Portuguese. I’m planning on going back in 2024, but my daughters and I don’t know which route to choose yet.
Salomon’s were super for my second Camino. I went up an entire size than my usual, and added Dr Scholl’s gel pads for even more support. They lasted well beyond an entire Portuguese Coastal!
I was surprised at how bad I truly was at estimating distances. Everything else stated by others is true and pretty wonderful even when experiencing discomfort, pain, thirst, hunger, and exhaustion. Planning on returning for my third next year and just training more to be better prepared.
I would suggest the coastal route since that is the one I walked. The weather was (in June, 2019) exquisite except for the first day when it rained for an hour or two. Walking on boardwalks and slight inland paths at times was easy on the knees, ankles, and hips.
Most memorable was definitely a communal meal at an albergue in the meseta with the hugest paella pan I’ve ever seen! The paella was also excellent as was the company!
