This post is for long distance walkers or hikers considering the Camine Frances. If you’re not in either of those categories then please bear in mind you’re not the intended audience.
You’re likely here because you are wondering which Camino you should be going for. I walked both the Camine...
The Norte and the Frances merge for the last 40km. Coming into that stretch from the Norte in August this year it felt like I'd arrived in Benidorm. Obviously can't say what it will be like next year, but this year was bad enough.
I've done this in hostels, and I'd do it in an albergue. Dryers are a shared resource and it's up to them to free it up for the next person
Any reasonable person won't mind you doing this.
Merged from the Norte with the Frances today, I have literally seen more pilgrims on the first 6 miles of the merged trail than I saw on the rest of the Norte.
And I swear if I hear 'buen camino' one more time today someone is going to get hurt.
Gave up planning ahead and booking on the Norte as I found it was noticeably spoiling the experience. Of the 6 days to date I've been convinced I'd be sleeping out I found a bed on 4 and had a comfortable night in my bivi bag on two.
The first night in a church porch I was woken at around 4 by...
Not sure having been savaged by bedbugs recently on the Norte makes me an expert, but for what it's worth a comment about people wrapping their stuff separately.
I really don't think you can take the risk. If anything has come into contact with them the only safe tactic is to treat everything...
While staying at Zenarruza monastery on the Norte I bought a necklace from their shop for 4 euros. It was a cross with a figure of Jesus on it and a separate metal Camino shell all on a loop of black material rather than a chain.
Given the price and the fact they had a ton of them, along with...
On a side note, travelling from Stansted to Madrid at the end of july, I saw a couple told the wouldn't be able to fly to Ireland as they hadn't filled a form in online. At the gate for the Madrid flight an entire family with children were told their PCR tests were several hours too old and they...
Given the Albergue is closed, as are all municipal albergues, Irun (and for me Zauratz) just didn't have any budget accommodation when I stayed at the end of July beginning of August. I arrived in Santander today, and other than those two hotspots I'm finding a mix of Albergues and hostels...
My first Camino.
On night 5 and have the next three nights booked already so giving some feedback.
Obviously with municipal albergues closed there is less choice, and whilst the 'see where I end up' approach might work I'm not inclined to chance it. 15 - 18 miles a day does me so I'm simply...
Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere. I Will be in Irun next Wednesday the 28th of July, starting the Norte on Thursday the 29th of July. I'm trying to find out where I can pick up a credencial on the Wednesday (I'm there all day as I actually arrive late on the Tuesday) given the Albergue...
I'm confused about the locator form I would need to fill in before travelling to Spain. I tried to take a look at what questions it asks but you need a flight number to start filling it in.
Do you need to provide details of where you will be staying throughout, or only for a few days, or is it...
As a Brit you're allowed to stay a maximum of 90 days in any 180 day period, with the 180 days 'rolling'. No visa required.
I raised the question about accommodation in another thread, the fact is we're not going to know how or even if a Camino would work until Spain clarifies the rules. The...
I've been watching his Camino uploads recently. Whilst his videos are comprehensive and contain useful information I do think he overplans to the point he sucks any spontaneity out of his journey.
Seeing his toilet break planning video, where he literally goes off camera for a practice poo...
