LIVE from the Camino Walking from Le Puy - after a rocky (anxious) start!

I extended Le Puy to Pamplona and I highly recommend it. Pamplona is one of my favorite small cities in the world.

Just finished my Camino Frances with 40km yesterday but can’t get Compostela or Certificate of Distance

Is there a time limit on collecting the certificate? Could you hold the pilgrim passport (and I agree with the poster above that this is the more valuable momento) and may maybe return to SdC at some point if your travels take you back to Spain and collect it then?

LIVE from the Camino Walking from Le Puy - after a rocky (anxious) start!

Sorry. For some reason they didn't load for me when I logged in via the daily list. I only saw the first X posts. Judging by the responses, I was not the only one.

    Lodging

My daughter walked the Norte at this time last year. The vacationers will be starting to leave so it will mostly be weekends that will be tricky from here out. That said, she never had a problem finding something on Booking.com or Gronze if she planned out a couple of days in advance. I strongly...

    Short connection time in Madrid

Good job! I almost missed a flight out of Madrid with a wider connection from local flight bc of a bottleneck at security (single scanner every everyone had to put their carry on through and someone pissed off the tech so she then hand-searched every bag), which we had to re-clear.

    Short connection time in Madrid

That will be really tough even if you only have carry ob. There is a long walk to the transport between terminals and it is not totally intuitive. There will be no one in the airport at that time to ask for help.

Is a sleeping bag liner sufficient next week?

I might be able to live without rain gear but a rain cover for your backpack is a must. It’s one thing to be wet yourself in the clothes you are wearing and quite another to have all your clothes wet.

Is a sleeping bag liner sufficient next week?

Did Norte in August last year (in a cool year) liner was sufficient. Blankets were offered but if not you can, as you suggest, just layer up. Sleeping bag dead weight.

    Woman Alone?

I think your advice about carrying food still stands. Increasingly, Gite owners recognize this and offer packed lunches for a fee but it is very good to carry a bag of trail mix or something for a pinch. There were days we left before the boulangerie opened in one town, found nothing on the way...

    Woman Alone?

I hope you are not referring to my remark that most people on the Le Puy are Francophone. It was not a criticism but a statement of fact in contrast to the Frances and it has to do with the fact that the GR65 is a popular national hiking trail distinct from it’s role as part of the Chemin. I...

    Woman Alone?

I was traveling in the summer, so that means more people, but also during Covid travel restrictions, which meant fewer. I was with my daughter and we did not want for company. We often walked alone (though many days we did not) because of pace issues but we needn’t have. We met a range of...

    Woman Alone?

I think there is a misunderstanding here. The trails on Le Puy are also part of a French heritage hiking network, so while there were plenty of Pilgrams when I walked in 2021, there were also many people hiking stretches on their vacation or retirement to see French cultural sites. They may be...

Enjoy! Your French will improve so much.

    Woman Alone?

Despite my handle, I am a woman and I did feel safe. 2021 prob low ebb for Americans and Brits on the Le Puy, so you may well find more english speakers. Still vote for learning a little French because I found French people more willing to try their English on me if I tried to my French (maybr...

    Woman Alone?

Oh. I did bring a small pepper spray. Only one time did I even think I might need it, but felt good to have it. You’ll need to check a bag to bring it but it’s legal to bring. Make sure you practice using it (and don’t spray into wind on this trial).

    Woman Alone?

You will want to use Miam Miam (as suggested elsewhere) because that is the guide most people on this trail use and if you stay in gites recommended by the guide you will share dinner w fellow hikers every night. The food is unbelievably good. If you speak French, that is very helpful. If not...

Alert Solo female pilgrims be aware of creepy man by beach.

That’s right. That is predator behavior. Thank you so much for taking the time to report it! I love the graffiti! Someone should make t-shirts!

LIVE from the Camino Bad cold in Pamplona

It’s pretty easy to get a PCR test from a lab in Pamplona. That’s what I did at Laboratorio Pilar Larraz.
