Best / Recommended Pizza places on the camino?

We stopped for a great pizza lunch in Melide. Unfortunately, I can't recall the name of the bar, but, having just crossed the bridge on the way in, it's on the left just as you arrive in town - think it was the first bar you happen across.

Do you need to stay at an albergue to access their luggage transfer service?

It's good to know also, that in my experience, bags must be at the collection point by 8:00am - the transport drivers are punctual.

    Niggling hates (dislikes) on Camino

    Goes for regular backpacks too.

    SJPdP one night or two?

After 24 hours of travel, we stayed in Madrid for three nights to alleviate jet lag and also to have a good look around the city on foot. We had one night in SJPdP before setting out on the Camino. Worked well and will follow the same schedule in an upcoming Camino.

    Heads up: Albergue scam?

    No, I've not experienced this - walking April/May 24.

    It's unbelievably hot here!

This is the most consistently hot and humid summer I can remember. It’s energy sapping and so uncomfortable. I’ve always been a summer girl, but I can’t wait for winter this year. Coming to you from the Gold Coast (east coast).

visiting from australia. where should we fly into

I have flown from Brisbane to Madrid and out of Barcelona to Brisbane, and will fly into/out of Madrid this coming April on my second Camino, though, starting in SJPDP as opposed to Sarria. Before flying home, we will be catching a train from Santiago back to Madrid, stay overnight and fly home...

    A stupid washing thing..

Me either... just used my fingers to comb it through when conditioning and just piled it up into a bun or pony every... didn't miss a comb.

    A stupid washing thing..

Well, as much as I feel like I'm deliberating, I'm not really...it will have to be my good shampoo, conditioner and leave in moisturiser to tame the 'beast'. I'll take the little 100ml travel bottles again this April, however, I will have to take two of the conditioner as one was not enough last...

    A stupid washing thing..

Same here… I have just past shoulder length, thick, curly hair, nothing but my way too expensive shampoo and conditioner will do. It’s a pain, but better than ending up with a head full of something resembling fairy floss!

    Morton’s Neuroma shoe choice

I have Morton's Neuroma in both feet too (one in left foot, two in right)... I have the same issue with pain at approximately the 8-10 klm mark. Unfortunately, I've not found changing the shoe type helps the pain - I've worn the sturdier type hiking boots and as well as trail runners and light...

    Madrid to Pamplona

If you take the train departing Madrid at 10:00am for Pamplona, be aware that you will not be able to reach SJPdP via bus on the same day. The only train leaving Madrid to reach Pamplona in time to make it to one and only bus service for the day (departs 12 noon), leaves Atocha at 7:35am.

What's with the big bulls on the hills?

Yes, totally agree. Would be interesting to see the brothers in action on site making repairs and perhaps having a chat too.

Better route after Col le Lepoeder to Roncevalles with less road walking?

You went to so much trouble @Rick of Rick and Peg! That's very kind of you. Thank you, I'll take a look... insert smiley emoji

Better route after Col le Lepoeder to Roncevalles with less road walking?

@Kathar1na thank you, the map also confirms the image posted by Trecile as you note, but with a greater degree of perspective. I have a much clearer idea now of where to turn off once we reach the bottom of the NA 2033. It's clear to see that the path does mirror the N-135, and with only foot...

Better route after Col le Lepoeder to Roncevalles with less road walking?

Well, I am a little confused now. However, I feel from studying the map provided by @trecile that I understand where we went last Camino, and also the alternative route to which I am looking for and which I refer to in my original post. I think perhaps some responders may have mistakenly...

Better route after Col le Lepoeder to Roncevalles with less road walking?

Very descriptive and as curiosity would have it, I’ll make a point of asking about the numbered poles when on SJPDP in April. I’ve not seen or heard of these previously.

    Re-considering zip-off convertible pants

I have no issues at all with my Kathmandu zip-off pants. Wore them in CF 2022 and will be taking them again this year; might even buy a second pair as they’re so handy and comfy. Kathmandu is a New Zealand brand which I believe also owns Macpac, purchased in Australia - recommend them, cant...

    Zubiri or Larrasoana?

My favourite stop along the CF. Only 12 beds, beautiful home cooked, five course meal, breakfast option, very clean, washing/drying, Sara has just started taking bookings for this year. Highly recommended.
