Lots of good advice already so I will add a little of my research
All rain gear these days is breathable, which means in a real downpour you will get wet. The only type of rain gear that will keep you completely dry is some non-breathable plastic - Which would not be very comfortable to use...
I use Camino Ninja exclusively for my route map which is marked in bright red.
I started using this app before the owner died. I’m sorry I can’t remember his name.
It became unavailable but previous downloads still worked - just weren’t being updated.
It’s up and running again. You might try...
Last Camino I mainly used email (or called the venue) and received prompt replies (to my mind) within 12 - 18 hours. If I didn’t hear back it always turned out that venue was closed.
I didn’t always book but when I did it was 1-2 days ahead.
I didn’t worry but then I know I can rough it for...
This looks my kind of camino. I stopped at O Milladoiro when I walked Camino Portugese. The albergue is fabulous and the slow early morning walk into sleepy Santiago the next morning was Divine. I was all alone, finding my way, asking for directions, watching Santiago wake up. Just before I...
@davebugg Hi and thanks for that clarification and data on water bladders. Much appreciated.
I have used a bladder for my last two Caminos and definitely prefer it to bottles because of the easy access etc. I know others use a ‘suction’ system on their bottles for the same effect.
I just...
Hi. Go to Trecile’s link for the full story.
There is still a lot of confusion out there between an eSIM and a physical SIM card
Anyway, I used Airalo. I had a data only plan and used WhatsApp or Skype calls for phone calls.
It took a bit of concentration to set up but once I had a plan and...
Yes - take what is important for you - judging weight vs comfort item. . Sometimes hearing the reasons people take things helps clarify decision making.
I always take ….
* Liner and very lightweight sleeping bag - I like sleeping in my own stuff and being guaranteed warm a nights ( Maybe leave...
I think Spring is a peak time for the Via - I walked out of Sevilla in late September and there were days when I met no-one and was a solo pilgrim in the Albergue.
Maybe encourage people you meet to get a Compostela - that's how the track numbers and if it's a third or fourth Camino people stop getting the completion docs. There are probably more on the Via that official numbers indicate.
Lots of good ideas. Thank you - I learnt some new stuff.
I’m not sure there is one product that will do everything effectively but might do everything well enough.
Ultimately I use whatever comes to hand but generally I will have some sort of soap bar for body and clothes and small container...
As in life there are always bits of the Camino that are challenging. As much as I learn and experience when walking the quieter routes I also learn so much about myself when I walk among more people. Not always pleasant but always growth promoting.
I am planning my second Francés after 18...
Get to Ourense on the Sanabres for your last 100 km. it’s beautiful and not crowded. I see you might be short of time so you may need to skip a bit in the middle.
Buen Camino
Yes I am one of those people who love to arrive in a tiny village early and sit in the peace and quiet of nothing to do. Not every day - but for at least a few days of my Camino.
My first Camino age 56 I had an open completion date so I just walked what I walked. My shortest day was 4 km and my longest was over 30 km on the way to Finistere. My average was 20 km per day. Even before leaving I knew I couldn’t do much more than that. My most recent Camino -age 72 - I...
First Camino - age 56 - a bit fit but not great - didn’t know you could stay at Orisson. I only just got out of St Jean and I was puffing and panting and needing a stop. I can’t even remember having food with me. I eventually got to Roncesvalles - phew. Still one of the most memorable days...
Oh thanks for the info about pilgrim mass. I missed this when I was in Sevilla.
And I think I would choose Hotel Simon next time - I got my credential there and it looked great.
May you have a blessed Camino
I think an answer like - I am a public servant - would be acurate. It would be sort of great to meet someone like the Belgian royals and not recognise them - to bless them with anonymity and a ‘normal’ conversation.
