Masses, prayer services vespers along the invierno?

The only church we found open for services was in Silleda when we stopped on a Sunday, and the church at Taboada where mass had just finished when we rolled up, so we were able to go in and my Catholic brother-in-law could do his religious thing.

    Accommodation in Ponferrada

I can second Hotel los Templarios, I stayed there and it’s just up the street from the castle and the tourist office. Simple private rooms conveniently located between a couple of plazas with plenty of restaurants/bars.

Suggestions for a 2-Week Camino Invierno Itinerary in May

As others have said, your day from Diomondi-Chantada is quite short. I'd also recommend going a little further to the Hotel Vilaseco to make the next day into Rodeiro a little easier. I did that stage this past July, and I want to say we were at the hotel by 2pm after leaving Diomondi around 8...

The Invierno is gaining in popularity

I know my group made up four people finishing on July 27. While we didn't walk the whole route due to the wildfires that started the day before we were going to begin, forcing a start in Monforte, we only had one other pilgrim we saw on a daily basis, and he said he hadn't seen anybody the first...

    Visiting the church in Diomondi

    Visiting the church in Diomondi

Altar picture doesn’t appear to want to attach, sorry.

    Visiting the church in Diomondi

Pictures of the altar, inside of front door, and where the albergue connects to the church wall. The kitchette downstairs has a small dorm-room fridge and microwave, along with what looked to be a broiler/grill combo? I did not notice any pots/pans, but I didn’t open the cupboards. Upstairs...

    Visiting the church in Diomondi

We got here a little after 1300 and the receptionist was there, she leaves at 2200. When we leave in the morning we were told to make sure to leave nothing, because the door will lock and no one will be back until 1300. She said that the first few months of being open that there were days with...

    Visiting the church in Diomondi

I am currently staying at the Diomondi albergue and the receptionist at the counter has the keys to the church. We asked if we could look in not knowing, and she grabbed the keys and opened the doors for us. So, access is possible if you’re staying the night, I don’t know if they’ll open it up...

    Wildfires on Invierno

Almost live report: at about 16:30 on the bus to Monforte, active fire north of the river a couple of miles east of O Barco. The fire was a hundred meters or so from the N120 I’d guess. Fire had obviously gotten to the highway at some point previously a little farther east of the current active...

    Wildfires on Invierno

We’re busing ourselves to Monforte to start past the burned up areas around O Barco, so trimming a 12 day walk down to 6-7 days will mean, I’m hoping, very short walking days all the way to Santiago.

    Wildfires on Invierno

Tourist offices in Ponferrada and Monforte say that the path is open, but the situation is bad. At least that’s what my bad Spanish picked up. The air in Ponferrada this morning was smokey, but not as terrible as it was last night. The occasional ash falls from the sky still however.

    Wildfires on Invierno

Yeah, being flexible is where it’s at. My experiences with wildfires in the western US help me to know that I don’t want to walk through the air I can see in Ponferrada. We’ll probably spend an extra day in Ponferrada to get an idea as to where the fires are and then transport ourselves...

    Wildfires on Invierno

I know this is a bit of a stretch, but I just left Leon on a bus for Ponferrada to start walking tomorrow. The air was thick with wildfire smoke and I decided to pop on the forum to see if something was going on. I saw the ‘Alert’ thread by Ivar on the main page, but was wondering if anyone here...
