Walking the hill that overlooks the town is a must. It gives the best impression of the place.
Ate fantastic sardines and salad and bread not far along from the bus pick up point at the harbour. 7 euros between 2, a real feast! At Radeix (?) La Marina on a corner with benches out the front.
I didn't stay in the albergues and all the small pensions used gave sheet and pillow case and some sort of cover but I used my sleeping bag a lot for extra warmth. Some places gave towels as well, but not all.
Sept 2010. In Olveiroa we just stayed at the As Pias, which is the restaurant previously mentioned. The rates for rooms at the restaurant itself were a little pricey but they also offered rooms for less (not great value as basic) in a nearby house. And I did see another accomodation on offer...
Recently stayed in Hotel Gastronoica - double room 70 euros (sept) and Hotel Real 40 euros single room. Both nice altho Real a bit noisy. They are in good position for walking into the old city from the airport bus stop. Good idea to book in advance if you can as things were pretty busy and...
Just walked from Santiago to Finisterre and on to Muxia and didn't feel overwhelmed by numbers of pilgrims. We had no trouble with accomodation - although not staying in albergues. The only place that was busy (possibly full) was Olveiroa. Sept 2010.
Currently they are building a bridge so that you can bi-pass the stepping stones on the camino between Finisterre and Muxia. We were told by some people that we could still use the stones while the work was going on, and by others that we couldn't. We decided not to risk it and walked around...
Just did this bus route, was two buses daily from Muxia to Santiago - one early about 6.30 am and other 2.30 pm. But do check for variations, details are up in restaurant window opposite harbour where bus also picks up.
Just returned from Santiago-Finisterre-Muxia and had to stay in b&b (not municipal albergue) as I was using a bag service.
