    Staying in Armenteira

We stayed as pilgrims at the monestery with the nuns for two nights. What a delight! The steep walk up from Combarro was lovely, solitary, and difficult for this 73 year old. Therefore, my husband and I had sent an email to hna ( Sister) Paula at the monastery asking for a two night stay at the...

    Spiritual Variante

While walking our CP Variente Espiritual last spring, my husband and I chose to stay in the Monasterio de Armenteria for two nights. A reserved two night stay might still be an option. We wrote to Sister Paula (hna Paula) and she replied with instructions on how to pay our deposit using Remitly...

My pilgrimage in a word: extraordinary! Yours?

LIFESAVING It did not save MY life but I (might possibly have) saved a man's life on my last day walk into Santiago de Compostela. (It was a very close call, so if i had not intervened he perhaps would have lived anyway. Who's to know.

    Astorga

We spent hours in the remarkable “Bishop’s Palace” (Palacio Episcopal de Astorga) that was never actually lived in by a bishop! It is an architectural wonder and a museum featuring many items of religious art specific to the Camino. We were impressed by the works of the architect, Antoni Gaudí...

    Mosquitoes and Flies

My husband wore a yellow shirt one day in May on the CF - never again. ALL kinds of bugs covered his shirt but no one else in our walking group was bothered. He saved the shirt for our last days in urban Madrid. I am severely sensitive to scented products and unfortunately several of our pre-...

Longest sections of Camino Frances without facilities

We decided to walk the Via Romana after Sahagun. It was difficult. We knew well ahead that there would be no services, no food available, no toilets - but we had a misplaced concept of the Roman Road- straight … yes, but actually not visible underneath centuries of added layers. The flat...

wondering where to start, and if I've trained enough

You state that you have knee problems. I agree with Señor Jacques that a wonderful place to start is Pamplona. When I started out of SJPP, I had NEVER had any knee problems, . . . I GOT knee problems the first week with the steep downhill sections into Roncesvalles and the equally treacherous...

Do and Don'ts on the Airplane

YES! Thank you for including this is your list. Might I add: not wearing to church, the theater, and bookclub. I often have to leave the gathering due to these "noxious fumes".

Alsa buses from Pamplona to SJPdP Scheduled— April 2022

Do you veterans suggest we purchase our tickets for the ALSA bus from Pamplona to SJPP ahead of time? Or leave ourselves open to the possibility of sharing a taxi with other peregrinos we might meet? I wonder if we can purchase the ticket from the bus driver the day of?

I heard that Casa Suzi might have closed (as in CLOSED). She was delightful on a video clip but struggled financially due to COVID. I hope I am misinformed, and correct me if I am wrong.

    App for Iphone with GPS

I use AllTrails app in the United States which has worked well for me. I did pay for the "pro" membership. I have already downloaded the entire CF to use offline in May. However, I am curious if anyone else had the chance to use it on the Camino.

Starting Camino Frances from SJPP April 27th/ 2022 ..

Hello Jagdev We will be 10 days behind you, not starting from SJPP until May 7th. I have heard really good things about Albergue Borda so that should be an excellent way to start your adventure. I really like your list of places to stay an extra day and rest your feet. Buen Camino!
